Guys,
This site is amazing....I've spent a lot of time researching issue on here and am always amazed at the great info I've picked up.
I am in the process of getting a new duck boat. I don't really fish (don't hate me) and need some extra brains looking at what I am proposing.
The background is that I will be carrying a 22ft hull that will have a total loaded weight of approx 3800 with my MAX gear load, motor, fuel, etc (and a tiny bit of allowance for safety).
I trailer a lot....from OCT through JAN I tend to make 5-8 trips of 900-1800 miles (total) from NC to hunting spots. Salt water and fresh, large tidal areas and low-tide areas, good ramps and not so great...I have to deal with what is there when I arrive.
I get called Captain Overkill by everyone who knows me, and its true. I also normally don't have equipment issues, or if I do, I don't have the same one twice. I am getting a nice new boat, and am willing to pay for a high-quality trailer that I can not worry about (while still doing proper maintenance). I'd rather NOT have to replace a trailer in 5 years.
After thinking this thing to death, I have come up with the following and would like your thoughts:
-Aluminum frame (I currently have a galvanized trailer and want something lighter and with better corrosion resistance). Rinsing after every launch is not an option, and it may be 8 dunkings and 500 miles before I get home and rinse (which always happens).
-Tandem axle with torsion suspension and stainless brakes
-Oil lube system
-Cypress bunks, no carpet, glide-strips
-Full stainless hardware, aluminum cross-members, etc.
-Full size spare and spare hub
-Maxxis radial tires
-Reverse solenoid
-LED lights
-Guide Bunks
Right now I am tracking Rolls Trailer as a possibility, and I am also aware that Tie-Down is a no-no...
Please give me thoughts on this setup and possible mods. Feel free to question my reasons, which I do have one for most of this, but am not married to some of them and always open to discussion.
One question is that in the off-season, my load will drop from 3800lbs to 2800 lbs. I've wrestled with proper tongue weight issues before...will this load difference be a big deal with a tandem axle?
thanks again for the help...
