Default What should it cost to covert to Kodiak disc brakes

I have a tri axel trailer and each axel has a set of drum brakes, I am thinking of converting to disc brakes when it is time to service the brakes. What should I expect to pay for this kind of job?

Looking at the Eastern Marine website (The Trailer Superstore) It looks like about 160 bucks per wheel for Kodiak Silver-Cadium disks. The Silver Cad brakes will last probavly 3 to 4 years with just hosing them off some. There is a something that you have to do to the Actuator to make it work with disk brakes (I forget what it is). I would probably get a new Actuator and lines and redo the whole thing. A new Titan 10 Actuator runs aout 319.00 (for up to 12,500 lbs) a Titan 20 Actuator rin 389.00 (up to 20,000 lbs.)

While you are required by Florida law to have brakes on all wheels, I know plenty of people who get triple axle trailers with brakes on the front two axles and do fine... DISCLAIMER *** I would never recommend this as a law man just stating other people's experience

I want to pull the single axle drums off mine and put discs on both axles... how do I determine the correct brakes on the kodiak site?

Assuming that you use your trailer for more than just local travel, if you're going through the effort and expense to upgrade to disks on a triple axle trailer, spend the extra money for an electric over hydraulic actuator. You'll be very glad you did.

I think they go by your Lugs and Tire Size... I am not trying to push Eastern Marine but they were very helpful and knowledgeable over the phone and will take the time to help you before, during and after the sale. They also had the best prices on brakes that I could find, I highly recommend them.

What is the benefit and excuse my ignorance here but will this put another electric part under water? I have always had my hands full with brake lights alone. I do make long trips. Central Florida to the Keys about 300+ miles each way.

Thank you for your help.

make sure that your current axle flange will accept the kodiaks, I just ordered replacement spindles from majic tilt, the spindle has a four hole pattern that will not work with Kodiaks.

I just had one axle done last week, convert from drum to stainless disc, new coupler required, had electric reverse actutator installed, all new hydraulic lines, had to have a combination Tie Down and Kodiak because I have 13 inch wheels and couldn't get all Kodiak parts. Total cost to me done by local shop about $1100. Doing both axles would probably have been under $2,000 because only need one hitch coupler, and less hydraulic to run. my guess for both around $1,800 but that is just a guess.

Just had Kodiak disc put on four wheels(had drums on two before) with new lines, new master cylinder, and the lockout solenoid for backing up. It came to $1400 and change.

Not sure of the cost....But just be advised that if you have a triple axle trailer... then your weight will exceed the weight limit and brakes are required on ALL wheels. If you travel to the Fla. Keys you may/will get a big fine. If you have an accident, your insurance may/won't pay the claim! Do all wheels. It's the law in Florida.

Sounds like I would be looking at somewhere around $2500+ for all 3 axels. I would do all three. Someone needs a very big tax return.

$4100 is a fair bit of change!
At that point, I would think about selling it and buying a new trailer with the brakes I want... I would surely investigate it.

Year and a half ago, I bought from a fellow THT'er his nearly new trailer, identical to mine except it had brakes on both axles and all stainless hardware. Used his thread in fact to sell my 4 year old one... Cost me $1100 to move up 4 years and get what I wanted and it was essentially new.. I realize a 5800lb tandem for a 22' boat is a bit less expensive, but $4k........

If you do the silver cad Kodiak's, I would think you are looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of $1500 or so for the parts. (6 calipers, brake lines, a new coupler and actuator.) Probably a day's labor to do all 6 wheels, which could very well be another $600 or so.

Several years ago, I had some trailer work done at B&G over in DeLand. Seem to be good people. You might check with them.
