Default Cool Hubs

Does any one know how hard or easy it is to change the Cool Hubs out? I have a Ranger Trail trailer(Banshee)...The passenger side access port where the oil goes is completely stripped out and I thought it may be easier to just put a new hub on...Thanks.

I had a guy break down one Saturday that had oil bath hubs on a Ranger boat trailer he had a seal leaking and I just packed the bearing with grease and away he went. I heard from him later and he had not changed it back, He wanted to know what kind of grease I used as he was going to do the other side. Not sure what Cool Hubs are but maybe this will help.

why would you use oil bath hubs, A regular Grease hub with a bearing buddy and greased regular will last years and if the seal goes bad the grease will not pour out and mees up a bearing, If you see grease on the wheel and are going to move the boat pump some more into the hub and go. When you dunk a hot hub in the water you create a vacuum and it can suck water in, Read the manual on your hubs it will tell you to allow the hub to cool before you back it into the water,

One other issue is the name Tie Down on them. I have to repalce so many seals on them bass boats it is not even funny. But they swear by them. They run cooler, If you have 2 axles on a 4000# boat the hubs should never get hot.

I agree with the grease hubs...This is the first trailer I have had with the oil hubs...The boat came like this with them that is why they are there. The directions(Ranger Trail) don't say anything about cooling them down first. I live on a private ramp so I do not trailer my boat more than 5 miles a week to get back and forth from my house to the ramp. Order then 3rd generation caps and they seem to look like they will work to fill the oil and change the seals ....
