Traded in my 2006 Tundra for 2010 with a 5.7. Dont do a lot of towing but just loved the power of the 5.7. I was wrestling with buying a Ford, I really liked the vehicle and the deals with Ford were really good. Ford has come a long way and is definintely a force to be reconed with. But in the end the Toyota just kept comming back to me.
Matt- Sounds like a nice truck. Did you go with an access cab or crew? Even though you just bought it, do you know what kind of mileage your getting? Please post a pic if you can. Next vehicle I am leaning towards a Tacoma but will check out the Tundra.
I may be gettting one this week. Getting rid of a '05 F150 supercrew and leaning toward a Dbl cab 4X4 Tundra. I wrestled with going with a Duramax GMC, but the Tundra makes the most sense. The smog stuff on the new Diesels is steering my decision.
Just got a 2010 yesterday for a new sales guy at work with the 4.6
NOT impressed with the truck as a whole, in the speaking of user friendly design- we bought it becasue it was cheap, and has the reputation to be low cost to keep running, and we expect it to be great for what it was bought for, and hold up the toyota reputation.
However, some small things are really a piss off, and I would never get one for a personal truck, and am glad i didnt buy it for myself. I am tall in the low 6' range, and it feels like im staring out the sun visor. The truck feels more like my ford escape for power, granted we dont have the 5.7, but still, it doesnt feel liek the power a truck should have, especially when they are comparing it to a 5.7 chevy as equal power with their 4.6.
the dashboard clock feels 10' away, and is hard to see and read from the drivers seat, and the radio is almost impossible to read the screen, its got a high-glare screen in any light, and is very hard to read, and from such a sharp angle its even harder to see, its almost like they angled the whole center console to the passengers seat.
Another thing, is all the gauges in the dash are down these little tube things, so you have to look down like a scope thats 6'' deep to see every different gauge - very irritating and hard to do, especially when your in a hurry.
I think toyota is on the right track, the brakes ARE very outstanding, but small things like a driver friendly dash and controls are still needing tweeking. But then agian, it was not bought to be driver friendly, it was bought to be a dependable vehicle thats going to get alot of miles.
why would you go for the 4.6 and not the 5.7? The fuel consumption is very minimal and if used any for towing the 5.7 will likely be better on fuel.
i'm happy with my 07 Tundra 4x4 Dbl Cab TRD with 5.7 v8, but like most half ton truck it came with P-rated tires which i swapped to LT's.

You are completely out to lunch on this. No power??? What a joke. My Tundra will out pull ANYTHING in its class. Sounds to me like you have an axe to grind over somethng.

I have not picked it up yet. A bought the double cab. The crew max was nice ...almost a limosine size back seat...but it makes the bed pretty small. Think I got a good deal.

Wow I am surprised. I almost bought the 4.6. I test drove the 5.4 Ford and the 5.7 Chevy. I thought the 4.6 Toy had more power than the Ford and Chevy.
MSRP 36057 Its hard to figure exactly because I traded in a 2006 Tundra. If you use kbb trade in value of 14500 for my trade I paid just about 30k even.
Awesome truck!
I've an 04 AC, 4.7L/4WD/TRD/TOW with almost 96,000 miles on it since new and would love the GenII Tundra 5.7L if I could get any other truck. It is hard to justify yet as it does everything so very well.
I would get the same truck, if not in black, 5.7, SR5 or Limitied and TRD/Tow.
Nice truck. Just went thru this analysis myself. Yesterday, I ordered a 2010 F 150. Yes, the Toy engine is really great, but overall I thought the Ford a better engineering truck and better interior. Tough call though. Ford will soon upgrade its engine (due for one) so I may trade in a few years. Good luck with the truck -- nothing beats a new one!
I have an 07 I bought new 2 yrs this month. I have 31k miles on it and could not be happier. The truck has not been back to the dealer since the day I bought her. The only thing done so far were oil and filter and air filter changes. The tires even still look new. If something happened to my truck today I would not hesitate to get another Toyota tommorrow. The only thing I would do different is the color.
I just want to correct the misinformation about the engine size.. It is 4.7, not a 4.6.. Also, I dont believe there is a GM 5.7l engine in their trucks.. It is 4.8/5.3/6.0.
Anyways, even if Gm had a 5.7, it wouldn't be a fair comparison.. It does(Toyota's 4.7) , however, compare to Gm's 5.3 in terms of performance.. I have driven both and own one..

Actually the current Tundra V8 engines are the 4.6L and the 5.7L
