Random Quote: Justice is often measured in calibers
Just an FYI, buying American, being American does not exist anymore, it has not for a long time, not only are cars and trucks made all over the world but all the companies mentioned are public companies, they belong to the stock holders whatever country they live in, not the country were they are incorporated.
Un-huh. Tell that to the 50,000 american troops in S. Korea. Protecting them while the citizens protest their govt allowing importation of american beef. They don't have to buy it, but they protest allowing it in their country! Wonder how many farmers here are driving Kias or Hyundais? Of course, they take every advantage of every opportunity to export a million cars a year while allowing each american company to sell 5000 vehs. But with their national pride, no one will buy one. Tell them there is no such thing as being Korean. Or tell the Japanese. You are inferior in their cultural eyes, but will let your sons and daughters protect them too. Almost no military budget and a government that is openly supportive of their manufacturing basde, including currency manipulations. Hmmm, tell me again about the level playing field, please.

I have no issue with you personally, I am just the dying breed of pro-american. I salute your ownership of a Corvette Z06. I have driven my friend's (he stores it in one of my garages in the winter). Absolutely a no-compromise world class sports car, and the best bang for the buck at any price. No Italian, German, or Japanese car can match it at its price. And that from a Ford guy. By the way, doesn't the fender badge say 505 Hp?
"To them business is war. They ignore patent laws. They actively collude together to destroy foreign competition in an industry before taking over. They only buy & use Japanese equipment no matter where the factory is located. The upper management is exclusively Japanese, except for the random token to show visitors. All the money goes back to Japan, and they provide just enough 'content' to American factories to say 'it's made in America' and insulate themselves from exchange rate fluctuations. They actively pick Japanese suppliers over American ones. You'd be amazed how many parts in a Tundra, or a Prius, take your pick, are shipped from Japan. Even the raw materials, like steel. They are totally national-centric to the core. To misunderstand that is to fundamentally misunderstand the Japanese. Everyone not Japanese is an outsider, not to be trusted with anything important. The Japanese are superior to Americans. It's a racial thing that is shocking to those who are exposed to it fully.
sounds to me like the american car companies that failed so miserably on their faces should take a lesson from the japaneese !!
ATaylor/TripleCrownNC, thanks for those posts, truly interesting, thanks for taking the time to share that knowledge.
I think it is comforting to know that "they", whoever they many be, cares enough to expect perfection in a product. I could care less who makes what, I want the best.
Japanese Toyota Tundra Truck
An American Corvette
A US made Dusky boat and Verado motor
Canadian made Snowmobile
Japanese made cellphone and digicam
Congrats, nice truck. I too wanted to "buy American" but when push came to shove the Toyota products are too good to ignore. When you plan on keeping a vehicle versus trading every 3-4 years there really is no comparison. Toyota and Honda make a finely engineered product, the body panels are a bit lighter and some of the materials are the typical japanese/just enough to do the job quality. The things simply run and keep running if basic care is given to them and just as everyone has said previously, oil, brakes, tires. After 83K miles on our car, I have had exactly one problem with a rear hub just recently, and just following the recommended service. If you plan on trading every few years, you are better off taking the best factory subsidized lease deal that you can find, if you'll keep it buy the best car for your needs no matter where it is built.
What are you guys seeing for MPG with the 5.7? Reading posts I see that the Tacoma and the Tundra aren't too far apart in mileage per gallon.
i have the 5.7 l V8 with the 6 speed transmission, i am getting 18 mpg on the hwy and 16 mpg in the city....if i changed to "regular " tires instead of off road tires like i had when i first bought the truck i was getting 19mpg hwy and 16.5 city
I know I am new to THT and do not mean to cause a ruccus but just wanted to bring to lite that the 5.7 in the Tundra is the same 5.7litre that originated with Chevy/GMC cept the Toyota's 5.7 litre has Aluminum head's..
I am just respoutng what I have heard from several reputable friends that are mechanics. The story is that GM sold the blueprint's to Toyota.
Maybe someone who have some proof positive info can bring us up to speed...
I must admit they are an all around nice looking truck..

No, the Toyota 5.7L is a double overhead cam engine, the GM is pushrod, totally different design.
I have had my 08 Tundra for just over a year now and love it. I dumped my 07 F350 CC SRW FX4 Diesel (POS)for this truck and never looked back.
When I was young and didn't have a job or pay taxes, I thought that buying from the Big Three was the only option if you were a true American. Now I see that it is the UAW / Democrap option. I will never again buy UAW ANYTHING, if I can help it.
