Default silverado wheel bearings

2007 silverado 1500 with a bad wheel bearing at 29K. Warrenty of course but just wondering if this is a trend. Friend of mine has an '06 that had the same issue at about the same milage. Anyone else have this issue?

You have a great truck, but the wheel bearings are not one of it's strengths. You can expect to change out a few more, before your truck is worn out.

My 04 has 80k on her and I just redid the brakes for the first time. That's the only maintenance I've done other than new tires and oil. Everything else is factory. They still had miles in them but one rear caliper hung up and wore the pad down to metal. I just replaced them all to be smart about it.

Got an '01 and an '06 the '01 has 142k just had to replace the bearing and hub mechanic said you have to replace with hub 300 bucks but the first time. The 06 hasn't had this problem at 50k. The rearend disintegrated on the '01 at 130k the rearend mechanic said I did real good that chevy's can go any time. I went with a Detroit Locker true-trac.

I'm not into gm but I own a dodge with unitized front wheel bearings and there are aftermarket companies that offer conversion kits to go back to the serviceable bearings, however they are quite expensive.

2004 silverado. 1500.

Never had a problem with over 100k miles.

I think I'll keep it for a while longer.

2004 Silverado 1500 4WD. Replaced left front WB at around 54,000.

They are not particuarly fun to remove without the proper tools.

It's funny poking around the net some people say no problem others say bring a big sledge. I know the dealer just charged me 1100 buck for one hub and 2 sensors. And the hub on the other side that my regular mechanic just replaced is no good and needs replaced (aftermarket part).

On my 2007, even the 2wd model uses the captive bearing assembly of the 4wd style. Even has the splined hub for the drive axle.

I've got about 94,000 on a Chev Silverado 1500 work truck (stripped down model) that I use to tow my work skiff. It's with the smallest V-8 and I'm towing a 2000 to 2200lb single axle package. I've towed an average of more than 20,000 a year with it since new (every day I'm booked I'm on the road a 200 mile round trip down to the Everglades, either out of Flamingo to the south or Everglades City to the west from Pembroke Pines...). The only work option I chose was the towing and cooling package with cruise control, it's been a great success. In all those miles I have yet to replace even the front brakes since most of my mileage is out on the Turnpike, or I-75. Can't say enough good things about the truck. The only problems I've had were with the rear tail lights (which are cheaply made, period). I'll be buying another when this one's paid for, another 11 months...

By the way, the service manager I deal with says that it's common for those front brakes to turn 100,000 before even needing to replace the pads....

100k miles on front brakes man that's some serious highway miles. I was happy with my Silverado till the dealer tagged me for ~1100 bucks for a hub and 2 abs sensor than told me the hub I just replaced at another shop was bad and I still had the same problem so it needs another 1000 bucks for the other side. I'm taking back to the other shop which said they'd buy the dealer part and charge the difference.
My 06 Sierra has 52k with no problems so far I believe it has a automatic tranny problem coming though every once in a while you put it in gear and it grinds, dealer hasn't been able to replicate the problem surprise surprise.
