Default Grease comming out of the rear seal

I just repacked my bearings. Tapped in the rear grease seal put the hub back on the spindle and started to pump grease in the hub. While I was pumping the grease in the hub grease started to come out of the rear seal. Did I do something wrong or is this normal?

Do you have the super lube spindle with the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, or a bearing buddy? The super lube style is designed to allow the excess grease to come back toward you and out the dust cap. If you have that style, you probably need to redo that rear grease seal. Check the surface of the spindle for scratches.
If you have the bearing buddy style, then you probably just put too much grease in and probably have to replace that seal also...good luck!

It's also sometimes not hard to set the seal too deep in the hub, to where it doesn't seat properly on the spindle. It should be flush with the back of the hub, not recessed.

Its a tapered spindle with a zerk fitting. Looks like I may have pushed the seal in to far. It is recessed and not flush with the hub. It was flush, cause I checked before putting it on the spindle. I must have got damaged when I tightened the hub nut. I did that cause I heard that was the way it was supposed to be done. i could not understand this cause once I get the seal in with a hammer and 2x4 I think the seal is in pretty good. I will take it off put a new one in and just get the hub or crown nut or whatever its called hand tight.

Its definitely not normal for grease to come out the rear seal. In addition to possibly installing it wrong, you could have damaged the seal as you placed the hub back onto the spindle. Until the hub is most of the way on there is no support to the hub. Allowing the rear of the hub to rest on the spindle as you slide it back on can trash the seal.

Good guess cause that is what I did. Got new seals and now no problems. Thanks all for your help and guidance.
