Default Towing a 31 ft boat Galveston, Tx to Cancun, Mexico

Im finally going to pick my new to me boat ts a 310 Stamas Tarpon it beams 11,2 ft. to Galveston, Tx and haul it 1900 miles to Cancun, Mexico. (Yes I checked shipping it by boat, on its hull, low boy, etc, it was getting very complicated so I Recruited my dad and a friend and were taking on the adventure).

I have sent a bunch of paperwork back and forth to TxDOT in Austin, and every time something new comes up, the fisrt time they told me that I filed too soon and told me to re do it today which I did with no luck, the last they asked for is a Surety Bond which cannot be Issued to me because Im Mexican and so is my truck.

I do not have a DOT number and cannot be issued one, Im starting to get some quotes from u ship in the 1200 dll range for a 400 mile run. That way I can weigh in the options.

My cost of going up there and getting it to the border should be around 500 dlls, Would you pay for shipping ? Would you risk getting a fine ? If I get fined, do I get to keep going or do I get impounded ?

Its the beginning of a 2000 mile stretch and would not like to be arrested, jailed or executed in Tx !

Please post your advise,

The Oversize permit finally came through, I have 5 days to move my boat from Galveston to Brownsville, Tx, the permit was $111.00.

I,ll drive to Galveston tomorrow and plan to start my trip Monday, Ill try and get some pictures up here during the trip.

Any last advice is appreciated ? how should I protect the engines from whipping to hard, do the 2 x4 work ? how are they attached?

thanks

Let us know how your trip thru mexico goes with the boat. I am thinking about towing a boat from Brownsville Tx to Puerto Vallarta Mx.was wondering how much hassle traveling thru mexico with it. You might look at crossing at Los Indios (Its the town before Brownsville (San Benito)) Instead of Brownsville .It would save you the trouble of driving thru Matamoros .Good Luck on your trip
