Just remember the following in NC.
(m) Notwithstanding subsection (a) of this section, a boat or boat trailer with an outside width of less than 120 inches may be towed without a permit. The towing of a boat or boat trailer 102 inches to 114 inches in width
may take place on any day of the week, including weekends and holidays, and may take place at night. The towing of a boat or boat trailer 114 inches to 120 inches in width may take place on any day of the week,
including weekends and holidays from sun up to sun down. A boat or boat trailer in excess of 102 inches but less than 120 inches must be equipped with a minimum of two operable amber lamps on the widest point of the boat and the boat trailer such that the dimensions of the boat and the boat trailer are clearly marked and visible.

I was asking about Maryland Boaters and Boats and Trailers of the 8'6 width limit that require permitting. What do you do in Maryland? It can be rather expensive if you trailer ever weekend in MD if you are an oversize boat as per the State Law.

I am from NC and have property in Maryland on the Potomac River near Port Tobacco but that 16 mile stretch on Maryland hwy is getting to a hardship to tow in Maryland

I might go with the Credit Bond and I can deal directly with the State and purchase my permits as needed without the outside agency. My insurance company filled that paper work out today at a cost of $50.00 which is good for a year but now I can order the permit online with the State of Maryland.

I've been crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel for 8 years with no extra charges for being 9' 2", until last summer. They measured me, and charged me $60 instead of the usual $20. A North Carolina cop was also in a bad mood, and pulled me over and gave me a $500 ticket for being oversize. North Carolina has since changed their rules, but Florida, Georgia, S. Carolina, Virginia and Maryland still have a 102" limit unless you have the magic permit. I sold my 9' 2" boat and bought a road legal boat for my annual trip from Florida to Virginia this summer.

Sunset Chaser,

Just image if you had a Sea Chaser. That one inch could be very expensive. Also I believe that you couldn't legally move it on Sunday

Hey Cat 5,

Thanks for your input. I was wondering if anyone had experienced any cop events. I think I have the 2 states ( Va and NC ) under control and I think I now have the State of Maryland under control as well. I spoke with the permit head as well as some Delegates in my District and they have let me set up an escrow account in the amount of $300.00. Now I can call Maryland and they give me a Permit Number and I am on my way. In a few days I will be able to access this on the computer and my permit numbers will be available to me 24/7.

It is still expensive but at least the State of Maryland Department of Highways and Delegates in my District now know that recreational boaters are mostly turning their nose up at the current system and just towing with crossed fingers. Maybe not all but I never thought that it would be such a hassle to own a 9'3 beam boat to tow up Maryland from North Carolina.

I went offshore this past weekend and fished over 250 miles rounds trip with about 90 gallons of gas making me think that I just might travel my boat up to Maryland via Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River to my final location.

Anyway, thanks for your feedback. Have a fun Summer and safe travels
