Nope - I was hoping that Toyota canceling the diesels for the US Market was just a rumor - no dice. Their response to the question.
Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
We appreciate the opportunity to respond to your inquiry.
We apologize, you cannot order a diesel compact truck in the United States.
We do apologize; at this time, Toyota does not have plans to offer a diesel powered vehicle here in the U.S.
In 2008, Toyota announced a Hybrid and Clean Diesel Initiative at the Detroit Auto Show and pledged to offer clean-diesel vehicles soon, but with no specific date attached. With the current economic climate here in the U.S. and abroad, Toyota has had to re-evaluate our future plans, which has unfortunately resulted a shift away from introducing diesel Toyotas vehicles.
We are aware of significant consumer interest in seeing Toyota offer diesel vehicles here in the States. We have not ruled out the possibility of offering diesels here in the U.S., but rather, we have directed our focus and energies more towards hybrids and battery electric vehicles for now.
