A wet road and an empty dually is very similar to driving on Black Ice. You can get stuck on wet grass. Stick with a 4X4 diesel and you will never look back, in fact you will be looking for duallys to pull up the ramp.

I pull my Polar with a 4x4 because down here in Louisiana we naturally don't have to worry snow but when you get into a nasty ramp with rocks I just slip my 3/4 ton crew cab diesel into four wheel drive and don't have to worry about throwing rocks against my fiberglass, just makes it sooooo much easier!

Default 4x4 not always needed, but it dont hurt to have it!

Just today I needed to test run my engine before I took it to the local mechanic. It was low tide and because of the tide this morning I used a local gravel ramp. Everything was good til I was ready to pull the boat out of the water? Posi traction and 33s on a 12 valve worked diesel and I had both rear tires digging before I reallized I better reach down and put the front axle in gear. Thats all it needed and all 6000 lb boat came up and out with no problem. It sure is nice to have it when yoou need it!

I to this day remember the day when a family membe tried to pull out his boat on a beach sandy ramp with his 2 wheel drive F150. All I saw was the rear wheels spinning. He had to summon my help and I pulled his boat out with my Excursion 4x4 without a sweat. My advice: Go with the 4X4.

I have a 2wd srw F350 with a good rear locking diff. I have never had an issue with pulling my boat out however if I had it to do over I would have bought a 4x4. I also never us a ramp that would be questionable on retrieval.
