Default Expedition Mileage Expectation

What should I expect for mileage from my 2004 Expedition while towing a 3500-4000 lb t-top boat on a dual axle trailer with overdrive off? Thanks. -- Bud

I have a 1997 XLT 5.4 4wd. Cannot top 19.6 @ 110kph in summer with no load.
Towing a total of 6000lbs @ 100kph I get between 9.5 an 10mpg on a 600 mile roundtrip. Ughhh.
Very stable tow vehicle though.

When you say 19.6 you mean mpg not kpg right? I am getting close to 17-19 mpg highway and under 10 highway towing 3500-4000 lbs. I guess that is in the range then. I was expecting over 10. -- Bud

I've never checked mine, but i'd have to agree that it can't be no more than 10mpg......probably less. Like the above poster said, a very good tow vehicle. I tow a 22 walkaround and I don't even know it is back there until I start to stop.

I have the same set up and get 10 mpg every time. The torque converter kicks in and out while in overdrive so I just put it in 3rd gear and relax at 65 mph max.

Good Luck!

My 2007 Expedition EL gets (2 wheel drive, BTW) between 20-22 GPM, when not towing, and staying between 60-65 MPH. When Towing my 18 CC, with an EMPTY tank (Boat hold 48 gallons) and, if I keep it between 60-65 MPH, on long straight hauls, it gets a surprising 12.5 to 13 MPG...when the boat tank is full, it drops to 10-11 MPG. It has the 6 speed automatic self learning tranny...I rarely have to take it out of OD, only when it's really hilly, or around town...dealer said I didn't even have to then, but, I am more comfortable taking it out of OD in those situations, it has teh 5.4 300 HP Triton engine, with the 600LB. tow package. The boat, motor, trailer, and full tank of fuel is somewhere around 3,500 to 4000 lbs. With OD off...yeah, probably about 9 to 10 MPG....
