Default Cummins 5.9lt

I bought a new 07 , 5.9 with a 6 speed manual and that sucker is a pulling BEAST, it doesn't slow down .

I have 4K miles on it right now and she is getting bout 11 towing ,15 around town and 18/20 on the hwy empty.

The 1st 1800 miles were towing my boat to Fl and back , yes I got to buy a truck while on vacation.

She is all stock for now , what have y'all done to your 5.9's ?

The first thing that i would do is add a turbo back exhaust, different intake, and a set of gauge:pyro and boost unless you decide to go with a display unit from edge, banks, bullydog, etc. If you are interested in tuning her up I will point you in the right direction.

I have not done anything to mine. Somehow I have resisted the urge and I keep telling myself I value my warranty more.

It's the hardest thing I've ever done....lol..

But, Ramdriver has given good advice because if I were to mod my truck I would do the following first.

Gauges....You sure don't wanna modify something and not know how the truck reacts to it. I'd look hard at a digital gauge like the Quadzilla.
It's really a personal thing, so get whatever type you like.

MBRP Turbo Back Exhaust.

AFE Intake

Then add a Tuner like the edge or a bullydog. I think the general consensus on Banks is that it's priced like gold, but not worth it.

My truck has been flawless for the 24,000 miles I have put on it.

In my opinion this is the best Dodge Website: http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/

All Dodge and all diesel.

Lets see some pics.

'07 5.9 auto here w/no mods (yet)...17K miles and 17 overall w/20+ hwy. unloaded. Thinking about the K&N filter/tube first. What I've read, the 5.9 has a history of burning the last cyl./piston with too much mod.

07' 5.9, 3500 Laramie, 6-speed manual, 3.73 gears, 4x4, quad cab with 44k on the odometer.
I installed a MBRP exhaust and Airraid intake system and run Opti-Lube in the fuel due to the low lube properties of the current fuel blend.
14mpg towing my 26' boat, 16 towing my 20' boat and 23mpg on the commute to work every day empty, saw 25mpg on several long highway trips.

I am jealous. I just bought a 08 hemi for work at the end of july. I was itching bad to get a cummins, but our fuel reimbursement (updated weekly) is based on the price of gas. With the recent tendency of diesel to be much more expensive, and the fact that I am putting around a thousand miles a week on the truck, I couldn't risk going broke feeding it.

stop! check out www.drperformance.com
this sounds like a much better way to get the most out of the diesel than over fueling the engine.

I went a bit retro I have a 97 12 valve with a few mods. I love the truck. It corrupts me into stomping on it and breaking my 33 tires loose{worked and modified auto trans}even switching from 2 to 3rd gear. so Im always ruining my Good MPG intentions with a heavy right foot. Its too much fun being plastered against the back of the seat and listening to the larger exhaust drone.Oh it tows my 233 formula like a gas engine pick up pulling a 15 ft aluminum skiff! I tow my boat every couple weeks even if it doesnt need it.

I have an '08 cummins and have added a mega cannon 2 intake, edge attitude and stripped off all of the exhaust and am now a 5 inch from turbo back with no restriction. 18-20mpg and no DPF. I also blocked off the EGR. Go to dpfdelete.com and they sell the kit.

3500 4x4 5.9L with the following installed in order:
1- aFe ProGuard 7 Intake System
2- Banks Monster Exhaust
3- HOT Juice with Attitude
4- SRT10 A-Pillar w/ diPricol 60Lb Boost Guage
5- Westin Chrome on Stainless Ladder Bars
6- Westin Ultimate Bull Bar
7- Weld 18” Wheels & Nitto 325 Tires
8- Xenon Fender Flares/full body kit – get painted to body color
9- SunCoast Torque Converter, Valve Body, Billet Input Shaft, Laminated Flex Plate
10- FASS (Fuel Air Separation System) – 150 GPH
11- Industrial Injection PS62 Turbo
12- ATS 2 Piece Exhaust Manifold
If I don't trade for a new one F1 Injectors and high flow pump are coming soon (should be good for at least another 100HP to the wheels).
Mileage averages 14+mpg combined (hand calc) but I tend to get on it regularly so I'm not expecting great mileage.
