Anyone going? I am sure there will be a few boaters and fishermen in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area that plan on going. I have not been to one since 1998 so I am really looking forward to going. Who else is?
Check the wind direction prior to being on the hook at Crawford's anchorage during the Harborfest fireworks show. That is.........unless you don't mind fireworks soot all over your vessel. Just a heads up.
Never had a problem with the fireworks damaging my boat. I am really looking forward to going. I grew up in Portsmouth and up until 1999 I had been to every one since 1977.

I heard that "The Cove" on Deep Creek is now off limits. What a shame. We used to spend the night on the hook there instead of Hospital Point during Harborfest back in the 80s. It was a lot quieter there at night and you could actually get some sleep there. I will probably head in after the fireworks on Saturday night. I gotta find a place to camp on the waterfront that is not too far away. So far all I have found is Chesapeake Campground and that on the wrong side of the locks. If I was wealthy I would open a waterfront campground somewhere around Portsmouth or Chesapeake. Portsmouth City Park would be a ideal location.
Hello,
I'm new here as well as new to boating. Just started last summer. I'm hooked. I would like to go to harborfest by boat this year, but I have a lot of questions about where to go, where to dock or anchor, what the rules are, etc. I would be leaving from Lynnhaven Inlet in VB. Any advice would be great.

There will be several boats on the river with yellow flags and guys in the boats wearing yellow shirts. These guys are the "safety patrol" hail one or ease up to one and they can direct you. I do know there will be very few places to tie-up but you can drop off passengers at certain locations.
