Default Can Tabs Be Used on a Whaler 27 with a Stainless Marine Bracket?

Hello Tabman,

I'm wondering whether trimtabs mounted to the transom on a Whaler 27 retrofitted from a Sea Drive model to one that has a Stainless Marine Bracket will interfere with waterflow to the engines that are setback from the transom? Any thoughts you care to share on that would be greatly appreciated.

In conducting a little research on my own, I've noticed that the Regulator 26 uses a similar bracket and also has tabs mounted to the transom so it seems that it can be done without adverse effect on the water flow.

Thisis,

It can likely be done, is there any way you can get some digital photos or a sketch of the transom setup? That would really help.

You can see a similar set up atWhaler 27/Bracket/Tabs. I'm not interested in purchasing this boat but I am interested in knowing whether there would be a potential flow interference problem in general with motors that are on setback brackets. The beam on this Whaler is 10 feet.

Thisis,

If there is enough beam and the Tabs can maintain a good offset from the lower units when viewed from astern (about 10”). The photo you mentioned shows Trim Tabs installed. They look like our ST16 12” x 16” Sport Tabs which would be a good choice for this boat.

The ST16s have a tapered inside edge that reduces the possible interference of the tabs with water flowing to the props. Regulators and other boat builders who use brackets also use similar shaped Tabs.
