Default Wrong Part

Hey Tabman I bought a tpi for my m120s and I knew that I needed shorter actuators to fit my current install. I called and your company sent out a new set of coils and rods for the shorter installation. I started to install the new coils and run the wire etc, to get the boat ready for Sunday and Monday use. After several hours of work, I find out that the new coils and rods were the wrong ones and wouldn't work, they were to big... there goes the weekend. As I really don't want to put every thing back together and again take it apart next week, I am feeling a little frustrated. The new tech guy I talked with today said he would get ship out the correct coils and rods today. I know I am blowing off a little steam here, after it went today, but can you see what can be done to get the shipment out so I can get the parts in by Wednesday, normal delivery is 5 to 7 days from you to me in Houston. Invoice#93218

Thanks

I am sorry to hear this and will look at the shipment Tuesday when I get back in the office. Normally UPS only takes 3-4 days to TX. Can you tell me the part numbers that were on the invoice? I am at home now, but am interested in what the invoice said and what you really got.

In talking to the tech on Friday, the hinge/coils were the wrong ones for my three ring M120 tabs. The part numbers were: CC3003SAP and SAS. He stated these hinges allowed my tabs top bottom out when fully retracted and the rod was 8" long and it should have been 6.xx inches. Ths rod problem is how I found how I have the wrong hinge/coil assemble, after placing on the hinge/coil I noticed that full retract was about 2" in the down position. The tech did state I could cut the rod to the proper length and use the tabs, but there are situations that too much stress could be placed on the tab, when full retracted and I hit a wave that pushes on the tabs, causing the hinge to break.

Two more questions:

1. I can't remember, did you use the actuators that came standard with the M120s or did we make them even shorter?

2. The black plastic "spacer" inside the upper hinge with sensor coils (it surrounds the copper coil) is it the same 2" height on both the ones that came in the kit and the ones we sent you?

You might have the right parts and simply need to cut down the rods.

Original install was with the spacer that is 1" in length, this was because of a transom height problems, I need the extra space.

Hinge/Coil that was sent also had a 1" spacer, so I did not see a problem. However the rod is 8" and does not allow for 100% retraction.

I was under the impression, like you, that the only problem was the 8" rod and not the hinge/coil. The tech indicated that the through part number and the fact that I have a 3 ring actuator, I also have the wrong hinge/coil.

Cut the rod down to 6-11/16" install and you are good to go. The rod is the only issue. New rods are scored at 6-11/16" to aid in cutting. The tech must have been mistaken. You can finish the installation.

Do you remember the tech's name so I may "improve" his skills.

Sorry about this situation. Most of our guys know their stuff!

Good to know that it will work with the rods cut, you can't imagine what trouble it is to run the wires through my hull, it is about a 2 hours steady process that involved a friend and a lot of wire fishing. I'm not sure on the name, I was really bummed when he told me this I really just wanted to go kick the dog!!!! But I didn't, instead I came here to the MAN to get your expert opinion. You should be able to get the name from my change of order on the invoice listed. By-the-way he stated he was going to get out the new order yesterday, so you might want to cancel that, Name: David Painter.

I'm glad your hear to answer the tough questions

thanks again,

David
