Tabman, would it be beneficial to put tabs on my 16'cat? If so, what size etc... I cannnot stay on plane with less than 3500RPM an it also leans to port at WOT.

Thanks, cat

Cat O Lies,

Yes your boat would really benefit from adding Tabs. Below you will find information from one of the project boats at our website. Let me know what you think after you look at this.

Tom
Bennett Marine

Project Spotlight
The Boat:
2003 Sea Cat 18 CC
Length Overall: 17'10"
Beam: 7'0"
Draft: 8" (engine up)
Weight (w/motor): 2,000 lbs.
Engine: Suzuki
Type: 4 Stroke Outboard
Horsepower: 115

The Installer:
Douglas Gramm
Boca Raton, Florida
Trim Tab System:
Bennett M80 Sport Tabs

Installation Notes:

"The cat hull had a very small area for installing trim tabs. The M80 Sport Tabs fit perfectly with only a slight modification required. I had to drill a new hole in the mounting plate to clear the drain plug. The Hydraulic Power Unit was mounted in the console next to the power panel. The hardest part of the installation was running the hydraulic lines through the hull due to limited access, however, with a little patience I ended up with a very clean installation."

Sea Trial Results:
"Single engine cats have a tendency to cavitate getting up on a plane due to the white water coming through the tunnel. The Trim Tabs have eliminated this by keeping the bow down before the boat planes. The boat will now stay on a plane at 10-mph (GPS). This allows me to operate at a speed range I was unable to before without cavitation. I like the control the Tabs give me to change the attitude of the boat for different sea conditions. Last but not least, I don’t have to move people from side to side to level the boat anymore. The trim tabs are truly a great investment."
Why Bennett:
"The M80 Sport Tabs look like they were made for my boat. The shape of the M80 fit my hull contour perfectly. I liked the fact that all the electrical components could be put in the console. I also heard Bennett’s customer service was second to none, which turned out to be true."
