After lots of review of trim tabs here and everyone's good opinion of you and Bennets, I decided to have the M80s installed on my Arima Chaser 17. I am hoping these were the right pick, boat is 16'11" with an 8' beam, so fell into the size range for the M80s. The dealer seemed a little concerned about putting them on the Arima due to the double hull, now I am a little concerned that maybe they don't know what they are doing. I realize Arima's are not a high production boat, but have you ever seen or heard of installation problems on them?
Arima boats uses Boat Leveler Trim Tabs at teh factor when they add Tabs. They tell us that it is due to the fact that Boat Leveler Trim Tabs have external hoses. This may have to do with the double hull ( a know the boats but nit that well) and this may be what your dealr was thinking about. The internal hydraulic lines we use are a much better way to do it, and a dealer should not have problems with a double hull. But if they feel better using external lines, we would be happy to send fittings to convert your M80s to external lines, no charge.
I ended up getting the M80s, look good on the boat, but now I have a question. I just put the battery back in the boat so I could get it in the water this weekend, and everything worked but the tabs. No noise from the pump or tab movement when I tried to test them. I pushed down on them and they deflected ok. Temp was in the mid 40's, could the hydraulic fluid be sluggish due to temps, or does it sound more like an electric problem?
Also, not sure eveyone is having this problem, but I could not generate a new post on the forum, message was there was a problem with the webpage and not all features would work, so you might want to try it and see if you notice any problem with the new setup.
Cold temps will not affect the system. It sure sounds like an electrical fault. Lets make sure the orange hot lead and fuse are ok at the control switch, and the black hot lead is ok back at the pump.
Let me know what you find. I willl try a test post.
Got the tabs sorted out, it was a loose fuze of all things. Oh well, newbie mistake.
Tried them out today, was a lot smoother and the engine ran a lot better than trimming with the doelfin. Still left it on though, seemed to offer a little something extra. Love being able to trim side to side, and boat is faster now.
