Default Killing battery

Hey guys. Im running a 25' Mako250, and my pump is 1 year old. Everything has been perfect until this weekend. I noticed my batteries are dead. I start by charging them, then start pulling 1 wire off at a time. The one that had a spark, was the ground for my bennet pump. I went ahead and ran a new wire to the pump, although there was 0 corrosion. I then checked all of the other control wires, and the plug, and 0 corrosion. The ground isnt the issue. As soon as I plug the wires in, The motor clicks. Its not either of the soilinoids on top, its actually on the back of the motor. The tabs still work fine. They go up and down as they should, but the top solinoids get real hot, and it drains the battery. What should I try next. I even tapped on the motor with some pliers, but nothing. Thanks, Mitch

Mitch,

Sorry you are having trouble with your system. The problem does seem to be your solenoid valve but I believe it is most likely your switch/control that is causing the problem. The only function of the HPU that will click are the solenoid valves so when you say you plug it in and it clicks leads me to believe that one of the solenoid valves is opening and since it is getting hot as you say means that it is staying open. Fortunately it seems not to have burnt out by now.
Please contact Ted at Bennett Marine to get you a replacement switch/control at (954)427-1400 or tgilson@bennetttrimtabs.com. Reference this thread and he will get it taken care of.

Tabman, thanks for the quick reply. So you think one of the solinoids are staying active, due to a faulty switch? I ask because the tab doesnt move when I plug in the harness, its just "clicks". The tabs do work awesome still, but are pulling the battery. We went out yesterday, and to make sure, I simply unplugged the harness each time we stopped. Im all for trying a new switch, but I wonder which one. I have 2 stations, and both sets of switches look and feel new. I upgraded to the fancy style rockers.
Just for the record, we just installed new engines in my dads old 30' searray sundancer, after it has sat for 7 years. During the sea trial, the old Bennets worked flawlessly, as if they were used every day. Thanks tabman.

Mitch,

Please give Ted a call at Bennett at (954)437-1400 or tgilson@bennetttrimtabs.com. Lets get this taken care of. I believe it is the solenoid valve which is being energized by a fault in the switch. Call him or Contact him tomorrow(Wednesday 5/28) and he will get you fixed up before the weekend.
