Default Striper chum recipe

Ok fellas,

striper season is comming and to increase my chances of catching Fish I want to use chum

Any striper chum recipes out there?
Also How are those dry chums? do they work just as well?

Average cost of store bought chum? per lb?

I dunno where all the threads on chum went, but I did a search and I didn't find very many.

Dry dog food soaked in shad oil.

Oh, you must be talking saltwater, never mind.

Fresh menhaden aka bunker alewie It can be frozen but be sure to use fresh baits. Use razor clams for bait instead of hunks of fish or use the fish guts for hook baits it will double your hook up ratio. Chum when they school up not for the big boys...

I use a mixture of cat food with fish in it, menhaden oil, ground bunker, OATMEAL, to absorb the oil, and sand. The sand helps bring it to the bottom. Alot of FL guys use sand in the mixture.

I guess it boils down to where you are from. Everyone has there own flare. Us eastern shore boils are simple folk. Take the cast net get bunker ground up throw in water catch fish. No sand ,no cat food unless it is ground up cat...no rice no floating mixture no dry pellets no fancy feast.. If you are not motivated go to Kool Ice by a bucket of chum for 15 bucks or go to Chesapeake Outdoors have them ground for you and go to work.

Trying something new this year. Liter bottle full of sand soaked with Menhaden milk or oil then stuck with a fillet knife a few times and dropped to the bottom on a drop line. Will let you know how it works. Never really have to chum for them in Raritan Bay. Biggest problem is trying to get your bait past the damn Bluefish.
Hey Johnny I want to come fishing with you. Lunch menu sounds great!

Oh by the way, when I used to fish the Hudson, where chumming is absolutely nec.. I would attach the mesh chum bag to the anchor chain before dropping. That would get it set on the bottom up current of the boat, not behind the baits by the time the chum reached bottom.

Does this chumming bussiness work on freshwater stripers? I have always wanted to try it but never got a round tuit.
