Default Setting the preset drag on the Accurate ATD-50 reel

I just received an Accurate 2-speed platinum twin-drag ATD-50 reel and was wondering how to set the preset drag. The manual does only a marginal job of describing how to do this and, before I call Accurate, I was wondering if anyone here could give me a more detailed description.

Thanks in advance for any help supplied

Default RE: Setting the preset drag on the Accurate ATD-50 reel

It all depends on what size line you run. I set mine to 30-35 percent of line weight at full drag. First put the main drag lever in free spool, then move the preset drag lever forward to the setting you desire. After this use a scale to see what drag is at full, adjust preset to the letter desired for the amount of drag you need. Once you find the right setting for the line weight you are using remember the letter the preset is on and you will always know how much drag you are putting on the fish. Always put the main drag lever in freespool before you make an adjustment to the preset lever. Hope this helps.

Default RE: Setting the preset drag on the Accurate ATD-50 reel

Jeff,

Thanks for the feedback.

One question I have, is at the intial setting for the preset lever, do you pick the lowest letter, then put the main to strike, and then determine if this gives you a 30% strength of your line (I have 80 lb. mono (150 yds.)/130 lb. Spectra (500 yds.)). If this is below 30%, then put main in freespool, make adjustments to preset (move to next letter up), and repeat main to strike for testing, with this repeated until you find the preset 30% point?

Thanks again.

Yes- That should work. On my ATD-12's, each notch increase (or each letter increase) increases the drag at strike by ~3 lbs. With 50# line, setting "H" has ~15 lbs of drag at strike on my reels.

I have 5 50w's rigged the same way. I think I or J on my reels produces around 30lbs at full drag. Start at I and that should save you some time.
