a penn handle upgrade question
a guy asked about handles upgrades, so i thought i'd post the answer here as well.
the handle from the single speed penn international fits on the 45 gls, the 40 gls, the 25 gls, and 4/0 penn senator 113h, the 225 lever drag, the 245 lever drag, the 246 lever drag, the 345 gti, the 340 gti, the 330 gti, the 320 gti and gt2, and the old 970, 980 and 990 mag power reels. you can get a 30-tw length, or you can get a 50-tw length. the whole handle assembly is #24-30T or #24-50T. you also need a lock plate (#110a-50) and a lock plate screw (#110-50). it's $30 for a set.
i have an offset grip that was designed to fit on the penn international arm. you can order a handle blank ONLY from penn parts.com (609-296-1300) and specify part #24-50T-1 handle blank only. you will still need the lock plate and screw. you could also drill out the existing grip and use the stock arm. i have done both.
i use my 4/0 penn senator 113h's for 100 pound yellowfin. i have full accurate frames, a 30T international handle, straight 50# mono and 17#'s of drag at the top of the spool. with the greased carbon fiber drags, i can still get a max of 25#of drag. for what it is, i think the penn 113h is still one of the best overall values around. alan
