Default Anyone attended Marlin University?

Just saw their ad in Marlin Magazine and went to their website. Looks like a pretty neat excuse to go to Costa Rica for a week and catch billfish everyday.

Unless you're pretty much a raw beginner I think you'd have a much more enjoyable time in Costa Rica with your own group of friends, not to mention it's cheaper to put together your own group. There are plenty of great boats down there who will teach you all you want to know about rigging baits (especially with circle hooks), hooking fish, etc.

It is pretty over-rated.... I would find a cool crew willing to work with you on a personal basis. I know our crew does it and Richard Chillimi in Flamingo will do it. There are guys willing to teach you here in the states too! Canyon Runner being one. Just find a good crew and tell them what you rlooking for and they will deliver!

Went last year to Guatemala. Had a great time fishing with Peter Wright and Ron Hamlin. Caught alot of sails, 3 or 4 marlin in 4 days of fishing. Everything was first class at the resort. Learned alot and had a great time although you could do something similar for less money.

In october I spent a week fishing with Captain Bubba Charter aboard the Tieretta in Venezeula. I learnt a great deal about billfishing from him. He was very happy to give advice and explain why he does things in a certain way. I spent more time on the Fly Bridge talking to him than I did fishing. It was Marlin University one on one. We caught 19 Bill Fish in five days including 3 double headers. I am planning another trip to fish with him in April. If you want to learn a lot and have a shot at catching a lot of fish I can recommend fishing with Bubba.
