Default New Penn spinning reels

I read that Penn has come out with 2 new upscale spinning models, Torque and Conquest. Anyone with any info on the 2?

I played with them at ICAST.

The Torque will retail for $600 and is a big game spinning reel with all metal construction. I was told at ICAST that none of the Torque spinners there were production models; so there may some changes from July until the initial production models are in tackle stores. The sizing is a little different from what other companies do. The TRQ-5 will hold about 300yds of 15lbs mono and same of 50lbs braid. The TRQ-7 and TRQ-9 are larger.

The Conquest is also an all metal reel with a very different design for the body. Have not see one yet. The largest size -- the Conquest 7000 looked like it'd make a great Tarpon reel. But time will tell.

Default Conquer

Conquer, not Conquest.
Around $199 to $229, have caught a bunch of 20-40 pound albacore, 15-25 pound yellowtail, and 25-42 pound yellowfin tuna with a field-test model in the 7000 size.
Fishes well with 50 pound braid, has 9 drag washers [4 metal, 5 HT100] that are around the size of a silver dollar.

I have a Conquer and love it.
It has the EAS (easy access system) that allows you to pop a hatch quickly and lube gears.
All models have very high drag ratings. I believe the 7000 will hold up to 32lbs of drag. A guy I know put a scale on it and actually got 41lbs out of it.
They are smooth reels.
Made for braid.
I love my 7000

The torque is already on Ebay.

looks nice, I like their old 8500ss, the problem is no braid.

The old 8500ss could pull over 100 pound fish with no problem,
those brass gear's were massive.
