Default Marina Del Rey Rpt. 10/25 w-pics

Took the “Big Drum” out for a meat run out of Marina Del Rey with some of my good fishing buddies, Jason “jscrib” and Mitch “fishrdie”. We were targeting Rockfish and also got some Bass, Sculpin and a Mako to join the party.
First drop of the day produced a nice Sand Bass and Brown Rockfish.

Here is a close up of Jason’s Chocolate Bass.

Jason and a tasty little Vermilion Rockfish.

Vinnie with a double on a Vermilion and Starry Rockfish.

Then we found an area that had some nice big chunky Copper Rockfish.

Mitch with a nice Chucklehead.

While skipping a couple Sand Dabs across the surface, I noticed a fin following my Sand Dabs. I knew right away that it was a Mako trying to get a Sand Dab lunch. The Mako ripped off one of my Sand Dabs, then the Mako went over to the other side of the boat and ripped off a Starry Rockfish off Jason’s set-up. Then the fish came back and ripped off the last Sand Dab on my set-up, then Mitch put on a hot sardine and hooked the fish perfectly in the corner of it mouth. We all agreed that we hadn’t eaten Mako in a long time, so we gaffed the crazy fish and brought her in the boat and gave her an aluminum bat shampoo.
Here is Mitch with his Mako.

Fish kill picture.

We also had a nice sundown bite on the Bass.
Mitch with a nice Calico Bass.

Vince with a nice homeguard Sand Bass.

Jason and a close-up shot of one of his Calico Bass.

We dropped some nets down as the sun was going down, and had a nice crawl on the Spiny Lobster.
Although I was driving the boat, I always like to pull in a couple nets to feel the kickin’ of some bugs. This Lobster did some real nice kickin’ when I pulled him to the boat.

Here is Jason with another quality tail-slapper.

Finally got limits for three by 9:15pm.

I had another excellent day out on the big pond with some good friends. I can’t wait to do it again. HOOK-UP!!
Till next tide,

Great overall catch BUT that mako is a little small should have been released just my 2 cents.

That's the best size to eat and I only take one a year, if that, plus we'd rather keep a smaller fish and we release all the bigger breeders.

I was in MDR in September for the first time and have to go again in December. How far do you have to run for decent fish? I may look into wetting a line next time out.

Come on dude. How many times does some one have to post a picture then gets called out about keeping a fish.

The OP said he keeps them to EAT and showed the picture of the "cleaned" fish.

When are we going to get to a point that someone can post a picture of a fish without some homer saying "uh....why did you kill that fish...I wouldn't have did that."

It seems to me that people do this just to run off at the mouth.

It depends on what you define as decent? There can be pretty good fishing within a couple mile from the harbor, if you know where to go. Sometime we can absolutely beautiful balmy weather in December, which can give private boater the opportunity to go to the farther west Channel Islands and get into so nonstop action a bunch of different and excellent eating critters.
