Caught a Blue Marlin - - - Miss-Be-Haven
Went fishing targeting Tuna (I was alone) due east of the Oregon Inlet in 500 plus feet of water.
Lots of sea life and a couple of marlin sunning on the surface.
Got the strike at around 8:00 AM on a blue and white chrome head lure 6" long.
It tore off, reel screeming for about a minute or so, just enought time to slow the boat down to 4 kts and get the fighting belt on.
Using the front controls (engine controls at the bow) I chased the marlin and retrieved most of the line. It danced for me a few times . . . beautiful
I stopped the engines to finish the fight and it circles the boat twice . . . nice to have the centre console.
Got the swivel of the wind on leader to the second roller on the rod . . . the whole time wondering how I would release it.
I let some of the line out of the reel and the marlin shook its head and tossed the hook.
I estimate the length between 6 and 7 feet because it was less wide than the transom of Miss-Be-Haven.
I was alone, sorry but can't take pictures and fight the fish at the same time.
Fishing has been good with me catching mostly maui maui . . . no other tuna yet

No pics and you expect us to believe you.
Nothing like catching a Blue off of your own boat. Congrats!

Gus-
If you want someone to fish with let me know and I'll come down for a few days. I have been asked to go down next week for a couple days and mate but would honestly rather fish with you if you are going to be there. Hate to see you have to go solo.

dude i really hope you appreciate what you have accomplished...
you've caught yellowfin tuna and a blue marlin, on your first trips out, on your boat, alone and without a guide
truly remarkable...

Gus, that is awesome. Congrats.
One of the tourney days, we saw a billfish fin. Looked like a Marlin sunning itself. I think my shotgun rig pissed him off...It's called The Agitator....just a few minutes later I noticed my planer line came to the top water. Checked the planer line and the planer was gone. Must have pissed him off so bad he took a swipe at my planer and cut it off. Never even felt it....had to be a billfish or a shark best I can tell.....We were in billfish territory.....
Anyway, congrats!
