Default Venice La. Sunday 10/26/08

Sunday morning we got a late start and pulled out of Venice Marina at @ 6:30 after most of the charter boats had left.

We made the decision to run long and 100 miles later we arrived at the drill ship at @ 9:30. Bait came fairly easy and after 15 minutes we had @ 60 hardtails in the livewell. Not much surface activity so we mark fish on the upcurrent side and put out two livies. Fish on!!! Dolphin were here and they were hungry. We boated six of em on the live baits and then it slowed down a bit.

Another live bait gets eaten and this one heads South. Kenny grabs the rod and makes quick work of a nice YF.

We were still marking fish but we had no more takers on the live baits so we started chunking with some pogies and Skipjacks that we had jigged up. First drift and a deep bait gets bit and we are hooked up again. Justin put the nice fat YF in the boat in @ 20 minutes.

Not long after we started our second drift and we hooked up again. Jason jumped in a harness and did great work in landing his first YF.

After @ 5 hours of fishing it was time to head in. We made it back to Venice Marina just before dark.

Life is good! Catch em up!

Awesome fish!!! just a little word of advice. When using your harness set up make sure the gimaball is lower on the legs. You are not getting enough leverage having it almost at waist level and the harness is almost no use at all. Plus you risk having it pop out and hurting the angler. If you lower it you will notice a big difference on how much quicker you can put the smack down on the fish and how much less stress your putting on your back. The angler should not have to be leaning back like in the one picture to put pressure on the fish, and thus using his back instead of his legs. Anyway, nice fish!!

What Fishcop said!!!

There are some good diagrams on the web of how to use your tackle
and harness more efficiently and safely. Oh yeah, a lot less effort too.
I can't imagine a 150 pounder on stand up gear without a properly
adjusted harness.

I wish I could afford to fish Venice more often. I hope the folks over there
realize what a great fishery they have.

Unfortunately, Venice is not exactly a garden spot.

Great catch. Wish I had been with ya'll.

Can't wait to hit up Neal's secret Wahoo spot in the next few months.

Aint that the truth...

I've been telling'em that for 20 yrs but they just won't listen .... they just keep pulling these resident tuna in the boat.

One of these days someone's gonna get hurt!

Man guys a little harsh, huh? Nice trip Boomer, I guess Jim's boat does raise fish without me on it.... who knew???

I think those Hoo's may just be early this year given the water temperatures, the bait on the shelf and all. I sincerely hope the Lump produces fish this year as the number of boats last year that were "in on the secret" was a real problem. I don't know but in 10 years I could probably count on one hand how many times I saw boats fishing those Wahoo in winter, maybe you guys just can't keep a secret.... yeah that's it!!!

Any chance you guys are trying to reschedule the party? I promise not to let LSU take priority this time...
