Default BIG YFT have returned

The big YFT have finally returned to our waters here in West Africa. A friend of mine caught this yesterday on a red/white Ilander after a 2 1/2 hour fight. 80kg's (176lbs). He also released a Blue Marlin and a Sailfish today.

P.S. For those that are wondering what boat that is it's a 28 Carolina Classic.

Default Re: BIG YFT have returned

Just spoke to my friend again and here's the story of the fight:

For the first 1 1/2 hours the fish went deep (approx. 800ft), stayed there and wouldn't budge. He locked down the drag (80lb tackle) and tried to plane it up whilst retrieving line. This worked and they got him to the boat three times, though each dive became shallower. The last time, they managed to get a Flying Gaff into him and he went beserk and was actually towing the boat backwards at one point.

By the time they boated him the gaff had torn a huge hole in his belly and some of his guts were missing. So maybe he would have weighed a few pounds more.

I'll definitely start fishing again starting this weekend. If this doesn't inspire me then I'd better sell my boat. What's interesting about this catch is that everyone around here now wants their own monster tuna instead of a marlin. Marlin catches are so common this year that it's become an unremarkable event!

Good luck twotems ......bring a camera, I don't want to only read about you snagging a +175 pounder.
