Just had a buddy come back from AK this week. Not sure exactly where he was. I do know it was blowing 60Kts "outside" ( I guess that's what they call the open ocean outside the mountains/islands) w/16ft seas. Apparently it was only 30 Kts inside w/ 6 fters.
They came home w/ a bunch of salmon, halibut, and rockfish. I'll try to get more specific location info for ya.
September is Coho time in Ketchikan . When I guided up there silvers were all over the place and with a 10 fish limit you could have serious fun and pack home a lot of awesome eating!
The weather is starting to turn, plan forcooler (50s), windy and rainy conditions, especially in later September (and be suprised when you have a sunny 70s day :>.
There is semi-protected water in that area so you usually can get out, and mostcharters will supply you with the industrial strength raingear you may need.
Get online and do a search for the Alaska Fishing Forum and ask your question there. Silvers are in in South-Central Alaska (Seward, Whittier, e.g.), and you can still find some halibut though they're going deeper this time of year. You might even catch some feeder Kings. Good luck. I winterized last weekend
I'm fishing further south in the Queen Charlottes. Alaskan salmon fishing hasn't been that good according to commercial boats now fishing here. Pinks apparently late, just arrived now. Usually the silvers are top predators, but we've seen very few of them. Halibut, is what we're after now and it's been good.

Was in Ketchikan 2 weeks ago and did well with the silvers and pinks, although they were very close to entering rivers. Also got 2 kings, one just short and one 35" approx 25lber. Beautiful fish. Fishing is decent right in the area where cruise ships dock. Probably only a 10 minute run from there.
