spinning vs. casting

what would be better as far as distance, a casting reel (conventional) or a spinning reel. I have never owned a conventional reel for castinng and i am curious to see if they cast as far as the spinning reels.

Surffishing I like Conventional for distance with PowerPro instead of mono.

Casting for distance is 75% technique, 20% the rod and 5% the reel.

From a pure mechanical stand point a conventional reel, with all other things being equal, will out cast a spinner every time because a conventional generates far less line friction coming off the spool that a spinner.

This guy is pretty good, and he prefers the conventional.
