Default Miles to gulfstream????

I would like to plan a trip next year to somewhere in Florida and was hoping you guys could tell me how far it is from your home ports to the edge.
I would like to know distances from all of your different locations.
I fish mostly in SC and it's about 60 miles to the edge here.
Thanks in advance for all of you guys help.
I fish a 23 Sea Hunt 103 gallons, so the gulf here is a stretch.
Thanks again,
Mike Parnell

The Gulf Stream moves in and out, and there is no set distance one might have to travel to reach the edge. The closest it comes, inmy experience is around the Palm Beach area and South and West from there to Miamiand throughout the Keys. From Palm Beach, it would be on average 5 - 7 miles to the edge (sometines even as close as the end of the jetties) Off Miami and further south including the keys, you would have a 5-7 mile run to get over the reef, and then one or 2 miles or as much as 12 - 15 miles to get to the edge of the stream.

Go to the NOAA page, enter the city you're looking for in the "local weather" box, that will bring you to the weather page. Scroll down to "additional forecasts and information" (right column) and then click on Marine Forecast. It's in there.

Divedog, here's a little practical experience to go with all the tremendous satellite info currently available.

Many years ago (too many) when I was just learning the skills as a mate under Capt Gary Hall out of the old Castaways Dock in north Miami Beach, I never knew what would be needed on any day until the Capt actually got a look at the water... Clean, dirty, good edge, or no edge at all... The Stream meanders in and out on a daily and even hourly basis, which makes it a challenge to predict. And just to make it really interesting various eddies, gibes, etc. can make the current howl northbound, barely move at all, or actually reverse and (where you are) head southbound.... Although it's been many years since I worked in blue water those early lessons stayed with me. When you finally get that trip look closely to see what the Stream is actually doing that day. You'll learn to appreciate it.
