Default Alantani Rebuilds

First, thanks to Alantani for provinding such great information on reel care!!

I was wondering if there is a single source for all the great rebuild data alantani has provided? I've looked through many of the threads and hope to do some reel rebuilds when the time is available. I think it would be great to have all the great data Alantani in one location!

thanks, pete

thanks, guys. there are a couple of boards that have archived the rebuild posts, including bloodydecks.com, senortuna.com, fullspeedfishing.com, anglernet.net, and i just downloaded all the major posts on the tackle board at coastsidefishingclub.com.

although scattered, the board with the most complete information is thehulltruth.com. there is alot of discussion here that does not occur anywhere else. the level and quality of interest on tht is unmatched. there are also others that contribute, and many more that are willing to verify my work and point out anything that doesn't look right. bs just doesn't fly on this board!

if you've got a question, try a quick search. the search function on this board is actually pretty good. if you don't get a hit right away, feel freel to ask. even if i don't answer right away, someone here can certainly chime in. there is a great deal of talent available to you on this board. more so than any other.

and for all of you, maybe this is a good time to put in a plug for wiley. running this board is not cheap. if you like the stuff you see on tht, please consider buying a wheel. i'm sure he would appreciate the support!

Let me just add that Alan has a bit of a cult following here in Sydney Australia as well. We have all his posts in the SydneyAngler.com library. Great work Alan.

This stuff is great. With the pictures and explainations even I can figure it out. Thanks for the great effort. Is there any way to download the whole file from here or another site so I can look at it at my bench as I am tearing through the reel? I can download the pictures but not the procedures. Seems I am as bad at computers as i am in reel teardowns! Maybe Alantani should print up some manuals. I sure would buy some. I have never seen clearer explainations!

The finest "Reel Work" I have ever seen, the detail, the narratives, the photos - all perfect. You should put them all on a disk and sell copies. You already have it all. Not really to make money - you won't get rich - but it would cover costs, and keep it all handy. Your work and knowledge is second to none!

Alan,

Greatest posts I've ever seen!! More informative than the reel manufacturers could ever supply!!!

Question: While fishing offshore in the Keys, I noticed that most of the charters fishing the offshore waters use spinning reels to pitch baits & battle Sails, Bonita, Mahi,...........but I don't ever see or hear much rebuilding needing to be done on spinning reels. Do they hold up better than conventional reels, or do you not get to involved in spinning gear?

Thanks again for all your professional help.

thanks, guys. i've been able to streamline the process down so that each one takes about 4-5 hours to write. the hard part for some of the lever drags is figuring out the rebuild proceedure ahead of time. case in point is john's penn kg 10. actually the entire graphite penn line. it takes me a while to get re-oriented when i open one up. i see so few of them here in northern californiathe single speed penn graphite reels already have carbon fiber drag washers. i have to upgrade all of the shimano graphite lever drags to carbon fiber at an extra $5-20 cost. there are more handle options for the penn. all in all, i think the penns graphie lever drag reels are a better buy. i think shimano just did a better job of marketing.

alloytoy, regarding spinners, all i do is pull out the drag washers out of the tops of the spools, match them up to a penn ht-100 drag washer from the chart
http://www.thehulltruth.com/forums/t...mode=1#M525373 , slap a thick coat of drag grease on them and throw them back in. and as far as the lack of support and responsiveness from the manufacturers, your guess is as good as mine.

Here's a tip that's not nearly as valuable as Alantani's posts, but here it is anyway.

Pull up the post of your choice. From the menu bar at the top click "File" then "Save As" and then pick a folder to save it in. I named my folder "Reel Rebuilds". This will create a file saving all of the photos, text, etc. from the first page of his post. This won't save more than the first page but usually you have enough to rebuild the reel without the extra dialog. If there's more that you want to save, click on page 2 and do the same. Name the files a shorter name than the default and add page 1 or page 2 as applicable.

Most are between 3MB and 5MB and have been my quick reference guide to rebuilding my reels.

Thanks a million Alantani!

So are we gonna get a rebuild post of that 10kg Alan? I've got two and would love to see the inside before I tear them down myself.I Would also like to see if there are any ways to improve performance.
