I got a brand new one for 30 bucks a couple years ago off ebay. I have it spooled up with some 40 lb. line and sitting on a nice stand up rod but I have never used it. I used to ask if anyone had any info on the reel (maker, quality, etc.) but gave up when the only comments I got were "buy a TLD!" or "stick with Shimano". The only reason that I bought it was because it was cheap. It actually is not that bad and feels pretty solid. I wish someone could give me some info on the reel rather than advise me to get a Shimano. I DO fish with Shimanos but I would appreciate any information that someone may have on the Bass Pro Ocean Master reel. Thanks.
Shimano, Penn and Abu make almost all of the BPS reels, that's why the specs are so close on them and they look so much alike. I only buy Penn and have recently picked up a few Shimanos when I found good deals on them, but for the most part I fish Penn and trust Penn. I bought one of the smaller BPS level wind reels for my 6 year-old to use and it turned out to be a great flounder reel. You aren't missing much from their reels that are made the same and look almost exactly like the Shimano, Penn and Abu reels other than the name, they are just as dependable and tough.

"It actually is not that bad and feels pretty solid" Gimmie a break its sitting in your garage NEVER USED....I have caught countless big fish on my 4 to 6 year old TLD 25's and TLD 15's The biggest last year was a 68 lb. Wahoo on a TLD 15. So, for just a few dollars seems kind of silly not to buy a proven fish catcher (those TLD's have been around for YEARS) to buy something that does not seem to be proven with the track record of the TLD"S, but a reel sitting in a garage is a great testimonial...BTW I own 9 TLD's and I m using the TLD 25's tomorrow...

Geeze...I never claimed that was wanting the Ocean Master to for my wahoo reel or whatever AND I didn't ask for someone to tell me that it is not a TLD25....I am quite aware of that. I am also quite aware that some big fish have been taken on TLDs. Like I mentioned before, I fish Shimano all the time. I am also a huge Penn fan and have some Daiwa stuff that I like. I bought the Ocean Master because it was cheap and I don't have the money to buy 8 or 9 TLDs and just wanted something to have as an extra. I also wasn't trying to say that the OM was as quality as the TLD. I just wanted some info on the reel...that's all. So, to all of you that actually helped me out on that, THANKS!!
And Cracker, I hope you have a great day fishing.
I bought a the BPS reel last year, with discounts I paid 80 bucks. I also have tlds 20s and 25. Can't tell the difference really. Used the BPS reel with 65lb power pro as planer reel and caught some nice tuna and king macs with it. Also used it as the WWWWFB with spreader bar and caught some nice fish with it. They are both made in South Korea, have the same drain hole. I really think they are the same reel, IMO.
A buddy tore both reels apart and didn't see any mechanical differences, thought Shimano parts would fit fine.
