Default offshore lure colors

Do you mix or match your offshore lure colors. troll all blue and white islander, seawitches, ect, or mix up the colors for tuna, wahoo and dolphin. most of the time i run a dredge, and a daisy chain as the teasers. run birds, islanders, green machines, and seawitches but never thought about the colors. thanks

I'm with Bullshipper. After one lure gets several bites, I'll move more toward that color group not necessarily the exact color ( light ,dark etc) But I still keep at least one odd color out.

I have heard dark colors on overcast days (purples and blacks), and light on bright days (pinks, whites, light green, etc). I usually fish some of both, just in different spots in my spread.

We run our spreader bars all the same color and style (at least 3 to 5 bars). Then we place other near and around these bars that are in the same color group as said before. Dark colors dark days light colors bright days. We also follow that rule by starting with darker colors early in the am ans making the switch around 9 to 10 am depending on the sun. We also will not hesitate to change things up. We carry enough colors and styles for any given situation. It helps knowing several boats out there and what they are doing, when someone is productive with green we make the switch.

We try to troll all similar colors at the same time so it looks more like a realistic pod of bait. I try to follow the low light/dark and bright light/bright lure ideas, but we usually end up using green at all times and rarely are forced to think twice about it. That being said, when we are struggling, a purple and black lure seems to draw strikes when nothing else will ....even in bright sunlight.

The answers to the color question has never really been put to bed. We will run a mixed spread of colors in spreader bars, when the fish show us which color are preferred then we make the switch to all the same colors. With that said we're trying to match the hatch all the time, and by that I'm trying to duplicate size, and colors of the tuna we're chasing. They may be feeding on micro suaries and or squid that 10" long. Flushing the stomachs of your first tuna will obviously help you get on track... Good Luck in you up coming season.

Endless debate really...sure, when I see a couple bites on the same color or style of lure, I'm switching stuff out as fast as possible but I've also watched 4,5,6 tuna crash a spread of mixed baits and colors (plastic and meat mixed)...many times. It really is a tough call.

Run what you feel confident in and has worked in similar situations...if you find what they want, give em' more of it!! I personally do not start out the day with 8 baits of the same color. It's usually a mix of blue/whites, pink/whites then some black/blue, purple or red...oh, and a green lure will find it's way out there as well. Usually a jumping daisy chain with a green machine trailer...short rigger. If they take a liking to it, another goes out on the other short rigger, etc...

Go get em'
