Default Stike Zone trollling rods ?

Anyone have any experience with these rods, which are always on Ebay very reasonably priced in sets of 2 or 4 with straight and bent butts? In both 50 or 80 lb class.

Any good?

yeah i've noticed them many times too....looks pretty solid but i have a feeling they are made in china or something
i've checked alibaba.com for chinese tackle manufacturers and they have listed simillar stuff
too bad can'r order from them smaller numbers cos i'm sure the deal is better

i just bought a 30-50 class all-roller graphite rod off ebay...from a uk seller called tackletrade....later on only i got to know these guys import it from china....big oops

waiting till i get the thing to see how it performs....it was 44 pounds with shipping....not bad for a roller rod

i like to beleive in alternative "brands" against the well known "brands"
i don't wanna pay extra for the luxury of owning a "Super brand" if the cheaper one "performs" just as better

Hi Birdman,
i bought a set of these recently (50's) and had em shipped to uk.
i'm takin em down to Antigua in May for a tourney so hopefully i will find out how good they are !???
just a couple of points tho, the bent butts look to be a weak point as they have rippled during the bending process.
also the anodising on the reel seats does look cheap, don't know how long before it will wear off!
i intend to leave them down in Antigua on a freinds charter boat as they are probably ok for the tourists but i think that if you are looking for a set for yourself "for life"
you should take a look around first.
good luck , Ian.

Thanks. Well, I emaile them, I wanted to purchase just one and they said they would not sell just one. Stupid.

Rollerguide,
Didn't Columbo Sri Lanka get hit pretty bad from the Tsunami? How are things there now? Hope all is well and your boat made it thru! Welcome to the hull truth.

I bought a pair and it was a mistake-I ended up resellingthem on ebay for the same money so I was out only the shipping cost. That said, if you see rods from Pinnacle Marine-GRAB THEM. Real nice and nice plp to deal with...

Pinnacle Marine rods are also available quite frequently on ebay...but shipping rate to sri lanka sucks

thanks BirdMan for the warm welcome
yeah the tsunami was the biggest human/economic disaster ever...i stay near the capitol city colombo...the west coast of the island so that area was lightly hit...the north, east and southern coasts took the bigger hit...
loads and loads of boats were lost...

Boats here are very basic you have the hull a deck and you have the inboard motor with it's cover thing and that'a about it
most of them have the hand operated wooden rudder....now multiday boats with better facilities becoming more common...about time
and very few sportfishing boats...and these are also 19-25ft open cabin fiber boats......
so when i look at the boats here in the boat pics forum.... you guys are so lucky to have such beautiful crafts...

I see you know how to use the little icons!!

Sometimes I wish I had one of those wooden boats your talkin bout! Hand carved from a tree trunk, an old Chevy in-line block sitting on the deck with a handle / tiller to steer it. Simpler things for simpler times!!

I wish i had your boat though hard to keep the beer cool in hot tropical weather when you don't have a roof on your head
and especially when a fish bust off your line or get false hooked...you do tend to need that little chillin time
I'm thinking of building my own boat...have checked those DIY plans on the web...doesn't look too easy though

yeah...i think i'm ok with these icons here....after all we're humans and expressions count a lot
And i'm in in advertising...an art director in the creative dept. of LeoBurnett, colombo...so i guess visually i'm a little bit on the stronger side

Roller guide, don't know how the welding guy's are doing over there but you could consider building a aluminum boat, I think there are some good plans on this forum and with a little squeezing you should be able to get your hands on one.
My excuses to Birdy(i'm out of topic) who is not so funny lately anymore, he was always good for a laugh ones a week
maybe he should do some fishing with us at OBX me would like that

hey thanks marty
will do a look arounf and see...
ive heard that aluminium tig welding is a bit of a tricky affair
as far as i know our normal steel welders are pretty inventive
you have to if you're in a third world country...

Almost bought the Striker rods, but passed when the seller finally emailed me back to answer my hardware question with don't know the roller guide types or butt manufacturer. Thought that was a bad sign. Bought some from Pinnacle Marine instead. Got them last month so I haven't used them yet but they look good. The seller seems thorough and stands behind them, so I suspect the rods will be be good.
