Default Penn 975 levelwind problem

I just got a new Penn 975 out of the box and started messing with it. I noticed the levelwind line guide sometimes stays to the far right and fails to return if I crank it slowly. It seems to do OK when I spin it quickly. Any suggestions? Do I need to send it back to Cabela's for replacement or is there an easy fix I can do?

I would sent it back now. Not supposed to do that. I have several loaded with 50 pound braid and I beat the pi$$ out of them.

Like they said.......send it back since it has a bad gear. The symptoms you describe happened to my 975 after I wore out the gear. Keep the mailing address since you will need it to get the clicker fixed.

I had the same problem with a Penn Levelwind 209. I fixed it myself. The gear only cost 3 dollars. It was an easy fix. it wa s cheaper and easier to fix it myself. Didn't have to pay to ship it back to where I bought it.

I just sent it back to Cabela's. I will try to fix it myself if the replacement breaks after I use it a while.
