I think the formula most people use takes the length and girth into account. If you don't have the girth you won't be able to use the formula. Either way though, that's a nice fish.

My guess, without seeing the fish, would be somewhere around 12 pounds.

A very nice red! No matter what it weighed!

Ok, here you go.....Others may disagree or have another formula....but this will get you close.....

Girth X Girth X Length ...divide that by 800 = your answer.......

24 in girth, 33 inches long.

24 X 24 x 33 divided by 800....= 23.76 lbs

Not the best but it will get you close...

I have caught and tagged @ 25 or so redfish in the past week. This is not counting the ones under 23 inches that we kept. The largest was just 41 inches. Redfish normaly have a girth that equals about half of there length plus an inch or two. I say normally because some are just fatter than others or just larger in the head and shoulders area. It's usually close. Two tags I'll mail today were 29 X 16 and 26 1/2 X 15. I think the 41 incher was 41 X 21.5 but I'm not sure, already mailed it. I never weight them or go picking them up by the mouth. So using the formula from TB above, say 18 X 18 X 33 = 10692 Divided by 800 =13.365. Girth is a difficult thing to measure due to the fact he's flexing his gills and how tight you pull the tape, plus your in somewhat of a hurry. The tags I'm using from the Georgia DNR now does not ask for girth, we just have been doing it for years and it's just a habit. Hope this helps some.

A 33 incher, depending on the size (bulk) will run anywhere from around 10 pounds to as much as almost 18-19 pounds. Normally though, I would say most 33 inchers will run in the 13-15 pound range.
