proper reel set-up; little hook on rod near reel

Hi,

New reel/rod combo. Penn 320 gti is the reel. the rod has a little steel eye hook type thing near the rod handle. does the line get fed through this tiny eye hook before it goes through the first hoop?

No. That would be for your hook only! I think I have read some of your other questions about fishing, you may want to go out with a local guide and spend a day on the basics. I'm not knocking you! I love when people get addicted to fishing but I see allot of people get frustrated over the easy stuff and lose fish, throw rods overboard, quit fishing altogether*etc. Knot tying, rod reel and line*matching, lure and bait selection...a guide would really be happy to help you out on that kind of stuff.
