This is actually one of the things I think they do right. Why wear yourself out and let the fish get a second wind? These guys are not going for an IGFA sanctioned record. Keep the angler fresh and don't worry so much about machismo.

I mean the actual reels, not the person that does the reeling. I have noticedquite a few times during an "epic" long battle, different shots grafted together, you'll see a Penn, a Shimano, maybe an Avet or Accurate, totally different color.

I've noticed that too, but I'm the person that ruins movies for people since I notice very small details. Regardless, I like the show, its way better than most of what is on TV. The drama is what the producers throw in to keep people interested (even though I'm sure there is some animosity between a few of them).

My apologies, Mars. I did not notice that but will pay attention to it now. I have noticed they often blur out the sonar brand names but allow Bass Pro and West Marine logos to appear.

Most of the time they blur out the name on the reels but you can definitely tell its not the same reel. Some times it starts out with a gold reel and changes to a silver or vice versa

So do when do they get paid...after the Tuna sells in Japan?

It's always stated, "This is an "X" dollar/lb fish.

Got to admit that I watched 4 hours straight of the marathon last night. And this was after I had seen every episode as they ran.....get a life, right? Mostly I watch in amazement at how inept the show makes these guys look. Like most say I'm sure it's highly edited for dramatic and comedic value.

I just wonder what else these guys do to make a living? The top earner had a total of $100,000 or so in sales and with this he still has to pay the expenses. Does the show pay them anything? I know the Hard Merchandise has run a charter during the show (I wonder how his charter feels about paying for a trip where the captain makes additional money when he sells "your" fish?). Do they fish for anything else commercially like bigeyes or yellowfin?
I used to fish with a guy who 10.5 months out of the year ran a headboat down in MHC. The rest of the year he caught Bluefin commercially. Same boat, he just set it up to troll. Mainly just trolled horse ballyhoo on Penn 130s. He made more on one of these trips than a whole week of taking tourist out bottom fishing. My brother in law was the first mate and he certainly preferred this type of fishing. It was very rare that they went out and did not bring back a keeper. Also very rare that a fish was lost after a hook-up. Unfortunately they were only allowed one fish per trip and federal quotas were so tight that it was not a very predictable fishery. If the folks up north got all their quota, none was left for us done here..... He did occasionally take folks out for CPR only and he also worked very closely with the Tuna Research and Conservation Center out of Monterey. Actually got on the National Geographic Channel during a special they ran on Bluefin.
Captain on the .com is actually a commercial airline pilot. Sandro mates on boats year round.

Last I heard on a different forum the fleet was BFT fishing off NJ in the canyons. Many docked their boats in NJ. Too bad I didn't know that earlier, may have been cool to snap some pics.

They also show lots of the same footage over and over again show to show. Especially the underwater footage.

1) they do get paid. not sure what captains make but the mates get $750/episode. it takes usually 3 trips for an episode. they probably do much better with appearances/endorsements. hell i would love to be on the show just for endorsements.

2) they film the show this year from July 19th to Oct 31st (give or take a week).

3) the price per pound numbers are "wicked" inflated. in one episode a 74" fish sold for $17/lbs. not on this planet is a fish that small getting that type of action.

4) yes Capt. Dave flys for JetBlue and his mate Sandro runs the boat. .com cod fishes and bass fishes April-June and they start tuna fishing after. word on the street is Marciano owns some hotels. not sure what the other dudes do.

5) hope capt. Kevin and his new boat are on the next season. the "Huntress" is a BEAST!

They catch way more then what is portrayed on the show. Think pinwheel killed like 75+ fish last season

Far from cancelled lol we are hoping for 10 more seasons. Shooting a spin off show in the outer Banks now.

Capt Dave,
Are there going to be two shows - the original out of Gloucester and the new North vs South or is the North vs South replacing the original? I really enjoy the show.

I owns hotels haha that's a good. 95 percent of our household income has come from commercial fishing. (Mostly gillnetting ) for 30 years or more. That can be verified easily lol hotels I wish. Maybe after. 5 more seasons I be in that bracket.
With the show airing in 171 countries in 68 different languages. Atleast for now we are just having some fun and enjoying the ride. Bottom line when they asked myself and my boat to be a part of this the first words out of my mouth were " is there a check involved "
Other than a few weirdos it's been a metric ton of fun. The haters are gonna hate lol. They can stand it so much they take time outta Thier day to search for forums to talk it down. That makes perfect sense. Don't it ?

Two shows. The haters will be able to throw rocks at my face on the tv for 25 weeks this year the new show a few boats from the original plus 4 boats from down here
For those who. Do watch. We have been working with editors on some of the issues. But although they are looking for good visuals as opposed to the same reel all the time I assure you. The result in the end is the fish we hooked is the fish hauled over the rail .
