Re: Why are Luhr Jensen Dipsy Divers not used here in FL? up here in Lake Michigan we use them heavily along with downriggers while trolling for salmon. You can adjust the tension settings based on trolling speed. We sometimes troll up to 5mp with them when targeting steelhead.
We run 3 riggers (one off each corner, one in the center stern) plus two dipseys on each side forward of the corner rigger in horizontal rod holders. You can adjust the counter weights on the bottom, usually the furthest back dipsey on 1.5 and the front dipsey on 3. They pull down and out based upon this counterweight.
We typically use the snubbers behind the dipsey to lessen the shock from the hit, and typically use braid/dacron/wire line for the mainline to the dipsey which helps it cut down and out quicker with less bow to it.
They are DEADLY, and I have used them along with riggers and leadcore when targeting kings/mackeral/wahoo when fishing saltwater. |
