Default Recommended Ballyhoo Hooks

What hooks do you guys recommend for trolling medium ballyhoo. We target everything from kings to tuna, wahoo.. the whole deal. We can't afford to go out and rig 15 rigs for each kind of fish so we were looking for a happy medium. Normally troll 30lb tackle, some 50lb on 80lb flouro or 150lb mono. Thanks for the advice in advance.
Oh, we've tried str8 shank hooks and are not particularly impressed. Have also tried hooks with a slight bend back toward the shank but i'm not sure what they are called.
HELP!

I like the new Owner 9/0 longshank #5192-191. Its the sharpest out of the pack hook I know of. has a wide gap and is just right for med. ballyhoo.

DJ,

Sounds like you're using only mono leaders. In that case you'll want hooks with ring eyes, not needle eyes, and somewhat long shanks.

The standard hook in many regions for rigging ballyhoo is Mustad's 3407. With 30lbs class tackle and medium 'hoo, I'd recommend using sizes 7/0 and 8/0.

Should you want to rig some on wire leader, try Mustad's 3412 hook in the same sizes.

Tight Lines,

Tom

I second the 8/0 Mustad 7691. That's all I have used this season and I seem to be getting better hookups. I don't know if it's related, but I also have landed 6 wahoo on 100 lb fluoro w/out a single cutoff.
