Fishing Kitty Hawk/Kill Devil Hills - The Hull Truth

OK, so the next beach trip is planned with some friends, planning to take the boat down to fish while they chase kids on the beach.
We will be down the week of Septemeber 16, what's is going on down there? Flounder in the sound? Is Oregon Inlet the closest inlet? How far out do you have to run for any offshore action? Trolling, chunking, etc?

I live here on the beach and can help you. E-mail me right before you come down and i'll give you the latest news. Yes Oregon Inlet is the closest ramp to the ocean. If you have never been to OI i hope you know how to read channel markers and bouys.

Capt. Do--Can I expect good fishing in sound without having to run the inlet? Also, will a 17 footer be a little small to be running that inlet?

Yes you can catch bottom fish inside the inlet. Have you ever been to Oregon Inlet before? You can fish inside ok in a 17ft. boat.

I've never fished Oregon Inlet before and I've just heard stories of how tough it can be. Any point in bringing trolling or downrigger gear down for near shore?
