Default Home-made reel spooler?

Looking for ideas on building a Homemade manual line spooler. Anyone got any pictures of their inventions?

If you're talking about "unspooling" a reel, take an old empty line spool, find a bolt the width of the spool + an inch or two. To your bolt, add a flat washer, the empty spool, another flat washer, then tighten down with a nut. Stick the threaded end of the bolt in a high speed drill and have at it.

If you're trying to put line onto reels, just check out one of the already available units for doing just that. Should be able to concoct one from old rod parts and a small motor.

I'm trying to build one with a drill. The drill sits in a mount. I will use a T shaped allen wrench in the drill chuck to turn my reel handle. The reel will seat in an old rell seat that I will mount on two 1/4' bolts with wing nuts, so I can adjust the hight. I bent a 2'x 1/4" threaded rod into a semi ? mark shape which will hold the spool, with tension applied with wing nuts and washers. This all sits on a large table top. I have to come up with a way to move the realseat or the drill back and forth to make adjustments for different reels sizes. I have most of the parts made and just need to find a foot pedal for the drill.

I can take pictures of the parts when I get home tonight and post em if you want to see.

homemade reel spooler 101...

-(1) five gallon bucket
-(3) gallons H2O

drop spool in bucket
run tag end thru rod guides & tie tag end to spool
wind on line

the water gives you enough resistance as the spool is spinning to get it on nice and tight, and will spin without twisting the line

Stupid question, but is there a way to guide the line onto the reel so that it spools evenly. Maybe it comes with practice, but I haven't tried enough times to know.

bad_andy,
Yes it comes with practice. Like most things in life the more you do it the better you get at it. I have seen the left thumb used, I normally use my thumb and index finger pinched together. If I remember correctly, it has been about six months now since I did this ex cerise

How about an old sewing machine pedal? You could maybe get one at a sewing machine repair shop.

The foot pedal from an old sewing machine works for a lot of things. Many of them have nothing more than a regular plug in so you can use them on many tools. I use one on my Dremmel tool when using it to turn foam popper bodies. It gives me precise speed control.

If you get one, check out the amperage range on the unit and don't plug in tools with a larger motor.

I used an old sewing machine motor to make a strip sander and another to make a tiny lathe for turning lure bodies.

One more hint: A bicycle wheel spindle can be used to make all kinds of good things.
