Default Suggestions please - Rods to match Penn 70VS reels

As I explained in my post about reels, I have decided to go with the Penn 70VS two speed reels . . . I now have to decide about the rods to go with these reels . . . thanks for all of the excellent responses received from that post

I am 5 ft 7 in and stronger than average (yes I know, smell isn’t everything ), excellent endurance . . . the gunnels of my boat are relatively high, about mid thigh at the bow and a little bit less at the transom . . . and I use the Braid stand-up harness which allows me to use my weight and legs to fight

It has been suggested that I get rods with the larger rollers which would allow me to wind on the leader . . . also it has been suggested that I get a bent butt rod but I am concerned that maybe the higher gunnels on the boat may make me regret that choice.

What rods should I get to match the Penn 70VS reels?

THANKS in advance for your suggestions.

I truly appreciate everyone helping, it has made my adventure of building Miss-Be-haven and riggering her for offshore fishing much more fun . . . good information and good e-friends, hopefully good fishing friends this coming April-May

Auguste, Ray KSUSA3 suggested a Seeker BTS 660XXH-6 AR to you in another thread. I personally inspected one today at my buddy's tackle store, and I've got to say that I'm impressed with it!

Fubar512

Thanks. While I can see many of the reels up here, there are few offshore rods to actually see and touch.

I don't think a bent butt rod is designed for stand-up. You're gonna need a chair or swiveling rod holders in the gunnel. Personally I like the slick butts with aluminum gimbal. Makes a lighter rod than unibutt and the blank extends into the butt.

When I bought my latest outfit, a custom rod builder tried to talk me into the oversized rollers for the reason you stated - being able to wind the leader onto the guides. I don't have a use for that. I don't double my main line and I don't use leaders longer than 10 feet. I also coudn't justify $400 for a rod when the Seeker was $240.

It sounds to me like you want to chase those giants off OBX, so why not call a tackle shop down there and get their recommendation on a set-up from swivel to butt?
