Default Quantum IR410cx & Penn 320 GTi - New Drags

A couple of months ago I sent my 5-6 year old Quantum IR410cx and Penn 320 GTI to Alan Tani to have the drags replaced and the reels greased up for the season. After receiving my reels Alan had them back on UPS in 1-2 days. I was expecting a month before getting them back and the whole process from me sending them out to getting them back took about 2 weeks! I re-strung the IR410cx with 50# power pro and the 320 GTi with 30# big game mono. Finally Saturday I got to use both reels. I fished 75% of the day with the 410cx. The drag is unbelievably smooth! There is zero start up studder. I am very impressed. I caught and released 5 or 6 redfish in the 10-20# range. My younger brother, the new owner of the Penn 320GTi, hauled in a bull red of about 15# and it did fine. My borther really likes the new handle that Alan put on! Thanks for the suggestion Alan!

Alan's price was very reasonable. If you are thinking about getting Alan to upgrade your reels go for it!

Thank you very much Alan!

Now I just can't wait to get back out there and use them some more!

Let me piggyback here please.

I just received my tld 15's back from alan. I haven't had the good fortune to use them yet, but they seem really smooth and have more drag than ever before. The handles look to be a big improvement. Thanks for getting me a new spool from Shimano at no cost. Top shelf stuff.

Alan, the check's in the mail. Thanks.

thanks, don. i just got an invoice from shimano showing that they credited me for the cost of the spool. it took me a little while to figure out what the problem was, and i didn't even really believe it myself once i figured it out. it's the first time i've seen a shimano spool that was milled with too much room for the bearing. that's why the spool had a "hop" in freespool. i was actually half way tempted to try scotch tape, but figured it would never last. it's much better with a new spool. please post some pictures and a report once you get out and fish with them.

OK, here's my "Alan" story. Sent 3 reels: Shimano Calcutta 400S, Penn International 975CS, and Daiwa GranwaveZ 30. Alan did all the drags and serviced. The shimano is now a TRUE 20lb line reel and has already killed a couple 30 lb class Albacore and Yellowtail, the Penn is easily a 25lb reel now, and the Daiwa! let me tell you about the daiwa.. . . . I decided to test" the new drags and 40 lb Big Game top shot over 50lb spectra. Slow trolled a mack for Mr T ( thresher) short story, 186 T-shark on a Daiwa 30!. Drag is incredible, reel casts incredible. I love that Daiwa. Alans work is top notch, the drags work.

hmmm, i really wish i would have remembered to put on that bigger grip on the handle. rather than send the whole reel, maybe just ship the handle and i can switch out the grips? let me know. thanks!
