Default 8ft Wooden Lure

I was visiting an event (I think it was called the Cotee River Seafood and Boat show) in Florida last week and met this guy who had an 8ft wooden lure!! :0 I'm not kidding He calls himself the "lure doctor." He was telling me about collecting lures like people collect coin stamps etc. sometimes these things go for thousands of dollars ....anybody heard of this? He's giving away one of his autographed lures in a sweepstakes at www.visitpasco.net ...they just added him to the promotion, but the winner gets a trip for four to florida and a 16" autographed lure Pasco

Oops! i didn't read the new posting guidelines and i broke two rules. I tried to go back and delete the link I posted, but the system didn't let me.

Now to introduce myself. I'm a 24 year old gal who doesn't know much about fishing, boating or online message boards. I've done some fishing causally, but I'd really like to get good at it.

I went to the event i mentioned last weekend in Flroida. It was pretty neat. that guy made all types of lures. Ones that you could actually fish with and show ones like the 8ft "Bassmonger". It's supposed to be the biggest one in the world.

hope that clears the air.

Default 8ft Wooden Lure

Folks "collect" lures the same as some collect baseball cards and so on.

I know a Canadian feller collects lures - has thousands and even wrote a whole book on lures, whith photo's of all the makes models colours.

He even went so far as to record the depth they troll at with underwater photo's of the lures flashing past a depth marked pole.

Surprisngly - the book was a sellout because it helped anglers select "known" good producing lures for certain species in certain situations.

He had write-up's on each lure, and what color variations it came in, and what species it was best used on in which conditions and so on...a vertibale treasure trove containing the combined observatiuons of some very well known anglers over a LOT of time spent fishing with a huge number of lures.

It is a way for the "casual angler" to "cash in on" a lot of the trial and error learning of some of the more successful anglers, in as far as lure selection, use, tuning etc.

I've seen in the last few years quantum improvements in lures bye a few dedicated lure fishers, some guys go to the trouble to change bouyancy of lures put out by manufacturers by re rigging the lures with lighter hooks, and changing tow points to strong plastic instead of metal - to get a sinking lure to become neutral bouyancy or a floater. The combination of this floating technology, on some freshwater & estuarine snag living species, which were otherwise next to impossible to catch has seen the lure catch rates skyrocket (along with lure sales figures).

Indeed - entire websites and bass like pro tournaments are showing up based on these new lure technologys, and the lure manufacturers are now even commercially adopting the modifications to offer both floating and sinking versions of the same lures for different species etc etc etc.

Anyway - welcome aboard Miss Fishy - theres a lot to be said for lures and those who collect them, who knows maybe you could start a hookless lures "earings" fashion trend among the lady anglers of the world...why not???

As far as breakin the posting rules, chill out Wileys a cool dude (most a th time! ).

You'll fit in just fine here alongside our other longstanding female mebers Wahoo Woman, Whaler Woman, Save our Planet Lisa, Olive Oyl, Deirdre and a host of others.

Now if you REALLY wanna get popular - send us a photo of yourself for the sandbar! (kidding!!)

Cheers!

thanks for the warm welcome. I've been to a couple other forums and they werent' as friendly. sorry abou the delayed response. i've been so busy with some activities at church. i don't know if anyone will actually read this becasue it's been so long.

i actually found two antique and collecting sites on line. i thought the guy was really interesting though. i wasn't sure if he was just trying to get me to buy a couple of his lures and pulling my leg.
