What is it?

On 2 different occaisions I have found small creatures that have a tail like a lobster in the belly's of 2 flounder. The tail section was segmented like a lobster about 2" long and an 1" wide. I'm sure it wasn't a lobster in shore here. I saw something on the discovery channel not to long ago that it could be but I can't remember the name. I have never caught anything like that in shore. I took one of those creatures to a guy that supplied most of the bait stores in Chincoteague. He didn't know what they were, but said they are like flounder candy. He didn't know how to catch them.

Could it have been either a Crayfish, or possibly a Mantis Shrimp?

The Crayfish would be my first bet. I've found them in flounder on several occasions when I caught them in brackish water.

My vote would be the 'Mantis Shrimp'. I have seen them in bellys on several occasions, and have caught them in small trawl nets before. I have not heard of a consistent way to get them for bait though??

Yep, should be a mantis shrimp, seen a show about thier striking claw speed, said it the fastest moving in the world.

It must have been a mantis shrimp. Picture looks similar to the tail section.

Mantis Shrimp. We used to catch these in San Diego while fishing for sand bass. They are mean little buggers. Watch your fingers if you ever get one.

WHEN I GET SHRIMP BOAT CULL THERE ARE USUALLY ALOT OF THEM IN THAT SO I WOULD TRY ASKING YOUR FRIENDLY SHRIMPERS FOR THEM
