Just started using spiderline for bucktailing for fluke and twice had the lure break off on small fish.I was using a uni-knot and the knot didn't pull out,the loop broke in the middle. The tackle store said the line was cutting itself.
Any recommended knots to use with this stuff?
I've had great luck with the uni know on Spectra, however I've always made about 9-10 passes through the loop instead of the recommended 4-5. The slickness of the spectra requires the extra frictive area.
I am not sure how you had the Uni tied but you need to go through the eye of the hook at least twice when tying a Uni. That said, I use both the Uni and the Palamor and have not had any trouble with either not on Power Pro.
I use Spiderline 10 lb on a barrel swivel to attach 25lb floroucarbon. The knot to use for braid as suggested is the Palomar. It holds consistently. I lost three bass on Monday night because I used a quick knot that broke at the swivel. Changed to a palomar, and took 7 bass, all were over 40"
Hey Lacey-forget the knot information, how about the GPS #,s for the spot you caught 7 bass over 40 inches that day!!!!
Only kidding, thanks for the responses.
I use a mono leader on all of my rigs that have braided line to absorb the shock of a hard hit. I have experimented with a lot of knots for joining the two so that I have a wind-on leader. The best combination I have come up with is to put a Bimini Twist in the braid and then tie the leader on using an Albright knot. I put a drop of Krazy Glue on each knot. The Bimini Twist doubles the braid in the Albright for added strength and I have never had a knot fail at the Bimini. In fact I generally will put a Bimini Twist in my Braid even if I am planning to put a Palomar knot to a swivel.
I found that the best knot to use is the Palomar knot. I often go deep water wreck fishing, which pretty much required Braided or super lines and heavy lead. I use the Palomar knot and it holds everything from 5 pound double header Seabass with 20 ounces of lead, to 25 pound pollack.

I have a spot that everyone would laugh at and I consistently get monster cows, and I can practically fish from my car it's so simple. Going tonight!!
glad to see so many others using a drop of crazy glue. Man, do I catch you-know-what when my friends see me doing that! Voice of experience, though, be careful about putting crazy glue in your pocket. Body heat will warm it up enough to leak. Glued shut the pocket in my favorite flannel shirt and a pocket in a brand-new pair of shorts. (yeah, I did it twice - slow learner)
The worst I did with the Crazy Glue was to pull the top off with my teeth since my hands were full of fishing rods, line, and lures. Ended up with the both lips glued to the top. THAT only takes once, even with a slow learner.
Maybe I'm reading something wrong, Lacey a 40" bass, I mean 7 40" bass? What kind of bass? Interesting, if you mean large mouth, I have a 27" that weighed just a hair over 10#. 40" would be a record I believe. Maybe I have drank too much beer tonight?
Those would be Striped Bass, and I would love to catch a 27" Largemouth, but not in CT I think. I have a spot that has fresh water dumping into salt water, with a strong rip and lots of Herring. The bass sit in shallow water day and night a pluck these babies off the rip as they spill through the portal. Pretty sporting with a fly rod, and awesome on light tackle. Whose knows how big they would be if I had a few beers!
For bottom rigs with sinkers, leaders and jigs already attached, an improved clinch knot PROVIDING you fold the line back on itself first and use the double thickness to tie the knot. Single thickness improved clinch with the standard 6 turns is almost guaranteed to slip.
For mono backing on a reel to braid or for tying braid to a fluorocarbon leader without a swivel, I use an Albright knot with super glue. Omit the super glue and it will slip.
The fishing in Fairfield, Southport, Westport has been spectacular if you know the right spot, tide, wind, temp, and moon. Reef is fishine well. So is Bedfords Point, Tide Mill, Sasco, and the outflow of the Housatonic in Milford. Some nice blues up to 36-38" in the Norwalk Islands.
