Default Diawa BG20 drag?

Anyone have the skinny on the Diawa BG series spinning reels. I bought a BG20 last season and the thing sits because I cannot adjust the drag to where I'm happy. It feels like I'm cranking wayyy to hard on the knob to get not much more resistance. Plus the drag is jumpy rather than smooth. The plastic knob is down against the top thrust washer as I'd expect but It just seems funky...Any real er, reel doctors out there.

The BG's have two Teflon drag washers sandwiched between two stainless steel washers. Pop out the spring on top of the spool and replace the Teflon washers, and it should work like new again.d

Thanks for the feedback John. I guess I neglected to mention the reel was new. I took a peek at the exploded diagram, everything looks to be in place. It just works really badly. It's a bit of a let down, the reel got good recommendations from a "trusted" source for dependability and ruggedness for a relatively low cost ticket... Anyway, I just ordered an Ahab to replace it, which, was my initial thought to begin with. Go figure...I should have trusted my own instincts.
I will next time!...live and learn!
