Default Alaska guide looking for winter employment

Hello,
I had a friend tell me about this site, Lots and lots of information here and good information at that ! I thought I would post this question here if this is the wrong spot than forgive my wasted space and please direct me to the right one.
I'am from S.C from the start But I now live here in Alaska year round and I'am a full time fishing guide or as long as the fish are here I'am employed , I have been guiding for several years now and my wife and I are thinking of returing to the Carolinas for winter so she can spend time with famialy . I would like to keep on guiding , I love to see other people enjoy the outdoors as much as myself. Does anyone here know or need a guide or deck hand for the winter season ? I would like to work off the carolina coast either one, Just so my wife could be close to her kin. Long hours are no problem I'am down at the boat here at 3:30 a.m and get back home around 11:00 p.m.
Here is a little information on me, Feel free to email me, But it might take a while to return your email as fishing season is still in full swing here.
I'am 33 married , Have 2 step children they live in Carolina,In case your wondering my wife is older than I, Thats how the step kids.
I'am Coast Guard Certifed for 6 people , Non drinker or smoker, I run a 21 , 24 and a 26 ft fully enclosed Woolridge jet boat , Have good referances from The owner and many, many of my past clients I still keep in touch with, I love my job and it shows. I do not lose my temper on some of those clients and you know which ones they are, Although I would like to say " Wow look at that fish, And as they look over the side give them a push, But I keep a smile and keep on fishing, After they are paying your salary ...
We live in the small town of Talkeetna, Alaska its a small fishing town with lots of fish. Like I said I would like to work in the Carolinas but I'am open to options after all we packed up and drove 4,000 mile to here.

Thanks for you time and emails in advance

Roger

Birdman,

Make sure we have snow before you do the Alyeska trip, We had very little last winter I live 2 hours from Alyeska and the norm is 12 ft of snow average , We had only 12 inches, The ski slope was hurting bad. But if you do the winter thing you still can fish for winter King salmon down in Homer or Seward. If you want to do alot of neat things come up in Feb. when Anchorage has the fur rondy lots of cool things to see and do. Just look it up via internet " Anchorage Fur Rondy" Would be great to hook up , But we are looking to winter in the carolinas ( Hopefuly)

Roger,
You may want to try www.charlestonfishing.com
A lot of the local captians post there and I have seen a few folks ask for employment and bet bombarded with emails and posts.

Tprice,

Thanks for the info. I used to live not far from Anderson. We used to go to the jockey lot every weekend. Good to hear from the south , How's the weather?

Believe it or not it was only about 90 today. This summer has been fairly cool and wet, the last 3-4 years we have been in a drought. In fact Lake Hartwell was down about 19-20' at this time last year. It came back to full pool back in the spring with all the rain.
Yep you HAVE BEEN TO ANDERSON if you have been to the JOCKEY LOT(ha ha).
Good luck with the job search.
On the other hand how is ALaska, I have always wanted to visit, plan on doing it in a few years. Everyone that has been tells me it is worth the trip.

I meant to add that for winter employment though you may want to look at the Outer Banks area of NC. They have all the big Blue Fin Tuna there from December-April. I know some of the charter boats in Charleston go up there for the winter or down to the Keys,Gulf, & Costa Rica areas.

Roger,
Man,seeing your post has really made me homesick.I lived in Fairbanks for 19 years and haven't been back there since 1986.I only got to Talkeetna once, but did spend a lot of time in the Denali hwy.area.The way it sounds, you must be on the big Su river.Nice to hear of someone from home.
Good luck finding a winter job.

tprice,
Well we moved from S.C to get away from the heat but no such luck... The weather up here should be 50 with rain every day, No such luck I just got back from a charter and it was 80 today, Whats up with this weather ? 2 weeks ago it was 85 than 3 days later it droped to 45 and snowed then back up to the 70's again the next day. I can'nt move any more north. Ha..Ha, I love Alaska I'd stay hear this winter if I could fish. It is well worth the trip, Just make sure ya know when the fish are here. You can pretty much go by the calendar, Just ask me when, And what salmon you are looking to catch and can tell when and where to go. Gotta go have 2 charters in the morning. Eat some boiled peanuts and chase it with a glass of sweet tea for me, Dang I miss those ...

The Alaskan

Yes you are right , I guide on the Big Su, Talkeetna and the chilitna. not much has changed since than, I don't think Talkeetna will ever change unless the tour buses stop visiting.

Kinda odd that you mentioned that. I had boiled peanuts today while I was fishing.
I never realized how local of a thing the boilded peanuts were until I got to talking about it with some other folks one day, sweet tea also.
Good luck and email me if you need any other info
